Song: Across the Stars :
John Williams
This chapter contains: angst/fluff

The cool evening breeze swept across the stone courtyard of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, the lights of the city flickering below like a sea of stars. The force seemed to hum softly between you and Anakin Skywalker, as if it were the very air you breathed, yet there was a distinct tension neither of you could ignore. It wasn't just the looming war, the whispers of the Sith, or the Council's growing concerns about Anakin's future. It was the unspoken connection between the two of you. The same unspoken connection the both of you had tried so hard to deny

You and Anakin had been close friends since your early days at the Temple. As Jedi, you both shared the same values of duty, responsibility, and discipline. But there had always been something more...a bond that went beyond friendship. Something neither of you could define, nor should. The Jedi code made sure of that.

You had both been through your share of trials together. Battles against the Separatists, missions that tested your loyalty to the Republic, your commitment to the code. Yet, with every mission, every moment spent side by side, your connection only deepened.

Tonight, however, felt different...

You found yourself standing outside the training hall, watching Anakin as he practiced, skillfully, with his lightsaber, his movements swift and precise. His focus was sharp, but you could sense the turmoil beneath the surface. His thoughts were clouded, filled with doubts, gnawing ache that only you seemed to understand.

The hum of his saber died down as he stopped mid-swing, and for the first time, he looked at you. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes betrayed him. There was something unsaid, something that had been building for far too long.

"You've been quiet," Anakin said, his voice low but steady. "Are you avoiding me?"

You took a step forward, trying to maintain the calm composure you had been taught, the discipline you had honed over years of training. "I'm not avoiding you, Anakin," you replied, your voice betraying the slightest tremor. "I've just been... thinking."

"Thinking about?" he asked, his brow furrowing in that familiar way, as if trying to dissect your every thought. It wasn't the first time he had asked, but tonight it felt more urgent.

"About us," you admitted, your heart racing at the words as they left your lips. "About what we are, and what we're not allowed to be."

Anakin took a step toward you, his gaze locked onto yours with a mixture of confusion and something else. Something deeper... something more intense. "The Jedi Code," he inquired, his voice taut with frustration. "It tells us what we can and can't do. But... sometimes I wonder if it's right. If it's worth it."

The words hit you like a shockwave, and for a moment you didn't know how to respond. The Jedi Code had always been your guiding principle, just as it was his. But hearing him say it, hearing the conflict in his voice, stirred something within you that you could no longer ignore.

"You're not the only one questioning it," you whispered softly, your voice barely audible. "But we've been taught to suppress our feelings. To keep them buried."

Anakin's eyes flickered with a mix of pain and longing. "I can't suppress it anymore. Not when I feel it every time I see you. I've tried, but it only gets stronger."

Your breath caught in your throat as the force around you swirled with the weight of his confession. His words mirrored your own feelings, feelings you had buried deep within yourself for years. But here, now, they were finally spoken aloud.

Before you could find the words to respond, Anakin closed the distance between the two of you. His presence was overwhelming, a storm of emotions crashing over you both. His hand reached out, hesitating just for a moment before gently cupping your face.

"Do you feel it too?" he asked, his voice rough with emotion, his gaze never leaving yours.

You nodded, unable to speak, the truth in his words resonating with every fiber of your being. The bond you shared was undeniable, but so was the conflict it created. The Jedi Code, the Order, the Republic...they all demanded sacrifices, and this... this connection between you was one of those sacrifices.

Yet, standing there with him, you knew that this moment, this truth, was something you both needed. Even if it was forbidden.

"You're my closest friend, Anakin," you said, your voice trembling, the words spilling out as though they were always meant to be said. "But I feel more than that. And I don't know how to make sense of it."

His thumb gently brushed your cheek, his gaze softening with a vulnerability you rarely saw. " I don't know how to make sense of it either, Y/n," he confessed. "But maybe... maybe it doesn't have to make sense. Maybe we just need to trust what we feel."

The air between you both grew heavier, charged with the energy of the Force, with your shared emotions. For a brief moment, it felt like everything around you faded away. There was no war, no Council, no Code, just you and Anakin... standing in the quiet darkness of the Temple, surrounded by the hum of life and the weight of your bond.

His lips were inches from yours, and you could feel the heat of his breath against your skin, the pull of the Force urging you toward him. And when his lips finally met yours, it was as if a dam had broken. The years of restraint, the years of questioning, the years of silence. All of it poured out in that single kiss.

It was slow at first, hesitant, as if neither of you wanted to take the final step into the unknown. But the longer the kiss lasted, the more you realized it was impossible to hold back. Your hands moved instinctively, finding their place on his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath your fingers. His arms wrapped around you, pulling you closer as if he were afraid you might slip away.

When you finally pulled back, both of you breathless, Anakin's forehead rested against yours. "I don't know what this means," he whispered, "but I can't pretend I don't feel it anymore."

"I don't want you to," you replied, your voice thick with emotion. "I don't want to pretend either."

For a long moment, the two of you stood there, bound by the Force, by the depth of your feelings, and by the uncertainty of what lay ahead. The galaxy was at war, the future uncertain, but in that moment, in each other's arms, you both knew that whatever happened, your bond would remain unbroken.

And maybe, just maybe, that was enough.

In the end, the Jedi Code was something Anakin would struggle with for years to come, but the connection between you two would never fade. It would be a secret, a part of you both that you could never let go of. And as the galaxy plunged into darkness, one truth remained: love, in any form, was the most powerful force of all.
