why.

just... why.

why must I endure this.

it's not a question, it's a statement.

heated droplets drip down his muscles, not that he paid attention to any of it. did he really deserve this pain? or was his belief a mere lie? was it hard for others to see the black and white of his mess?

is he messed up in the head?

definitely. but who would understand? who would notice? did anyone see how he's slowly pulling away? allowing the shadow of curses to swallow his soul whole.

filthy monkeys.

"suguru."

that soft female voice called, making him stop in his tracks and turned around to see y/n's serious expression.

"yes?" he replied, voice hoarse as if his throat was dry and voice box was lost somewhere.

"you don't look fine."

"thanks."

y/n took a step forward to him, closing the distance between them. she's glad that he did not take a step back, but part of her wished to see that charming smile once again. his eyebags can be seen, visible enough that she didn't have to point it out.

"c'mon. where's that charming smile that I adored so much?" y/n told softly, making the tension of the atmosphere even lighter.

in which, to her success, suguru let out a soft chuckle.

"I heard the conversation between you and yuki the other day," y/n mentioned, unsure how this confrontation would turn out.

"and? do you think my idea was splendid? wipe out all non-sorcerers?"

silence. y/n wasn't sure what else to say. she didn't want to lose him, trying to still have him with her, not wanting him to slip away through her fingers.

but he was never hers, right? why should she hold him back?

"honestly, I understand your idea, but I don't think you should-"

her words were cut off when he scoffed.

"I knew you were going to say that, y/n. I've made up my mind," he paused, taking a deep breath before he continued, "so, are you going to be by my side?"

y/n gulped. her whole body froze in place at his question. her heart screamed yes, but her duty whispered no. how could she choose to be rational or emotional?

"if I join you, I'll betray them. I may not say it, but I do care about them."

"more than me?"
