My Hogwarts letter had finally arrived and I was overfilled with joy and excitement. After years and years, seeing my two older sisters get their letters, I had finally gotten mine.
"Mom! Mom!" I shouted from the front door, running into the kitchen to where my mom was.
"Yes, Alana?" she said rather dully, focusing on a piece of parchment.
"I got my letter!" I exclaimed excitedly, holding up the letter in my hand, waving it back and forth.
"That's great, honey," she mumbled, giving a small smile. One that doesn't express excitement nor happiness.
"Aren't you excited?" I said, a little disappointed that she showed no emotion in something so exciting.
"Well, it's just a letter, isn't it. Your sisters have all gotten one. It's not like you've become the Minister of Magic."
I looked at her rather sadly. She's acted like this to my sisters before me. Why am I even surprised that she doesn't care.
I went to my father instead, hoping for a more exciting and happy reaction.
"Father, look -" but before I could even finish, he interrupted me, telling me that he's busy and that I could tell him another time. I gave him a simple "oh" and left his office.
Dissapointed with both my mother and father's reactions. I headed up into my room and placed the letter on my desk. I threw myself flat on my bed and sighed.
I layed there for a few moments, staring up at the ceiling before arruptly sitting up. I looked over to my desk at where the letter was placed and got up to open it.
Dear Miss Rose,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl no later than 31 July.

I gently placed the letter back into the envelope and smiled to myself, excited for whats to come.
