Kiera Reed, upcoming superstar, the new it girl, multi Grammy Award winner...or so she wants to be. Realizing that the music industry has little to do with talent and a lot to do with status, Kiera is willing to do it all to give her music the recognition it deserves. Even if that means fake dating the stubborn, inconsiderate and undeniably arrogant football player, Ruben Dias. It is through lies, schemes and hurt that the "couple" comes to know each other. Ruben never thought that he'd regret returning to training with his team. It's all he ever wanted since his injury. But to have Bernado follow him wherever he went, torturing Ruben with questions about Kiera, was really getting on his nerves. Ruben had absolutely no idea on how to answer these questions without further lying to his friend about his "girlfriend".

"At least tell me where you met her." Bernado pleaded, as he and Ruben trailed their teammates back to the locker rooms after a day's practice.

"What can I say Bernardo?" Ruben sighed. "We met at that award show that I attended last month. Kiera and I were co presenting the award for The Best New Artist and I guess we just hit it off from there." Ruben cringed with his own reply, Bernadro however, nodded his head with interest.

"So you fell for her right away, and she you?"

"I wouldn't say that." Ruben frowned.

"But she's your girlfriend, no?"

"Yes. Kind of. Sort of. We want to keep things private between us." Ruben thought of the pictures he and Kiera took last week. She had managed to run off before they had a chance to post them to any of their social media accounts. Ruben didn't think it was right to make that decision alone. If only Kiera would answer his calls.

"I get keeping your relationship private for the world. But to hide it from your best friend. I had no idea that I meant so little to you Ruben dos Santos Gato Alves Dias."

"Oh, please." Ruben chuckled. "At least now you know."

"Yes, accidentally." Bernardo exclaimed. "Something tells me that I wasn't supposed to walk in on the two of you making love on your couch last week."

"We weren't—" Ruben was caught by a violent cough.

Bernardo laughed. "Don't lie now Ruben, I know what I saw."

Ruben wishes. It was all his fault anyway. He had scared Kiera away by not honoring their arrangement. He kissed her, without consent. Although Kiera didn't seem to protest, it left him feeling like the biggest piece of shit in the world.

"I'm just joking, man. I am happy for you."

"You are?"

Bernardo nodded. "I even told Ines about the two of you and she almost dropped the baby in sheer surprise. We thought you were going to die alone, you know."

"Is that so."

"Yes! But now you've got Kiera, a beautiful woman. Who would have thought that she would be your type."

"What do you mean?" Ruben found himself pausing in his step, skeptically regarding his friend.

"You know what I mean." Bernardo smirked.

"I don't, actually. Care to elaborate."

"Vamos, Rúben. Não me faça dizer isso. " (Come on, Ruben. Don't make me say it.)

"Diga." (Say it.)

"Okay, then. A black girl."

Ruben scoffed in response.

"I'm serious Ruben. For the past few years since I've known you, which is a lot of years, you've usually gone for the type of girls that..."

"That what?"

Bernardo chuckled. "Well they all look the same. To me at least. It's nice to see you expand your horizon, besides Kiera is a really talented singer. Ines made me listen to some of her hits last week. We were even thinking about going to the concert she's having tomorrow at that festival by the university. I can't believe that you weren't planning on inviting us."

"I...I had no idea." Kiera had really been keeping him in the dark since their last encounter. Did that mean that she wanted to end their agreement? Ruben thought he would've heard from her boyfriend by now, however neither of them had made an effort to inform him about, well anything.

That's it, Ruben thought. He needed to see Kiera again, whether she wanted to see him or not.
