I walked Calum home today. He didn't live far away, just a few neighborhoods over. When he showed me which house was his, I was impressed. It was smaller than my house, but it looked nicer.
We walked into the house.
"Calum Thomas where have you been?" An older women I'm guessing was his mother walks out from a room.
"I made a friend and stayed at his house."
His mother looked to me freaked out, but I smiled and waved.
" oh god I'm so sorry Hun. My son is a fuck up he ruins everything, whatever he did I will replace I promise-"
"No, no. Your son is great. He is definitely not a fuck-up." I could tell that what I said cheered cal up.
"No but he is. He killed his father and his baby brother and he knows it. He is a fuck-up."
I watched as his mothers words broke him down inside.
"I'm sorry miss, but he's not. And I don't like the way you're talking to him. You're not acting the way a mother should and I think it's about time someone said something. Your son is a wonderful person and I think you're the one whos fucked up and you need to look at him for who he really is: a great young man."
His mother was speechless. I could care less if she doesn't agree with me, she just better not lay another hand on him.
I walk over to Cal and kiss him on the cheek.
"I have to go home Sweetheart, come over anytime you want mkay?"
"Alright Luke." He smiles and looks up at me as I walk away.
I didn't feel like I was leaving him in the right place. I knew I could protect him better than anyone else, and that's all I wanted to do. But he needs his family, even though I will make sure he has his picture perfect family someday.
