Friday morning finally arrived, bringing a palpable sense of relief with it. I stretched lazily, savoring the knowledge that the weekend was just a school day away. This week had been a whirlwind of stress—tests, assignments, and all the drama that seemed to cling to life at Crystal Gem Academy.

Skye, my roommate, was already up and brushing her hair. She turned to me with her usual bubbly smile. "Finally, it's Friday! I can't wait to just chill this weekend."

I nodded, still groggy but equally thrilled at the thought of some downtime. "No kidding. I feel like I’ve aged ten years since Monday."

We laughed as we got ready. Life in the girls' hostel was chaotic as always, with students bustling about, hunting for lost items, and hurriedly tying their ties. The air was filled with chatter and the scent of various perfumes as everyone prepared for breakfast.

"Are you meeting your brother today?" Skye asked, glancing over at me.

I shrugged. "Probably. Norrell and I might cross paths at some point during the day, but you know how it is—he's all basketball and academics lately."

By the time we made our way to the dining hall, the place was already buzzing. The long tables were filled with students, some gulping down their food, others chatting animatedly about the weekend ahead.

Kaylila, wasn’t there, of course. She skipped breakfast , so she could grab something to eat when she got to school. I couldn’t help but wonder how she was holding up. She’d seemed distant lately, and Norrell’s complicated feelings probably weren’t helping.

"Do you think we’ll get any free time after classes today?" Skye asked as we sat down.

"Hopefully," I said, pouring myself some tea. "But you know how Mr. Adeyemi loves to surprise us with last-minute quizzes."

Skye groaned, and we both laughed, sharing the camaraderie that made even the toughest weeks bearable.

After breakfast, I grabbed my bag and headed to the main school building. Fridays were lighter in terms of classes, but the atmosphere was always electric, with everyone counting down the hours until they could escape to the weekend.

The day passed in a blur of lectures and hurried note-taking. During a break, I spotted Norrell in the hallway, talking to Jayden. They were deep in conversation, and though I couldn’t hear what they were saying, I noticed the serious expression on my brother's face.

By lunchtime, I finally had a moment to breathe. Kaylila joined us at our usual spot under the big oak tree, where she unpacked her neatly prepared lunch. Her smile was a bit forced, and I knew better than to press her about it.

As we ate, Keziah wandered over, her confident stride drawing attention as always. "Hey, mind if I join?" she asked, though she was already sitting down.

"Go ahead," Skye said with a grin.

We chatted about random things—plans for the weekend, the latest gossip, and the upcoming inter-house sports competition. Despite the lighthearted banter, I could sense the undercurrents of tension. There were unspoken feelings, unresolved issues, and the kind of drama that only Crystal Gem Academy could provide.

But for now, I was content to enjoy the moment. Friday freedom was almost here, and I planned to savor every second of it.

The afternoon classes were surprisingly manageable, and the teachers seemed just as eager for the weekend as we were. By the time the final bell rang, a collective cheer echoed through the halls.
