Draco got kicked out when he blossomed as an omega on his 15th Birthday. Narcissa sent him to live with her sister Andromeda and as their fifth year began draco apologized to pretty much everyone at his new foster mother's insistance. Draco formed quite a strong friendship with Hermione, studying with her and debating her on house elf ethics. After he met his former house elf again he agreed with Hermione that slavery is wrong.  Draco also was able to teach Harry occlemency after Snape gave up.

Sixth year started and draco was invited to the slug club since his ties to his father were broken he had even taken up his foster family's surname draco spent the entire year trying to get Harry to ask him out but Harry was oblivious as ever. He confided his crush on Hermione who suggested Harry ask draco to a slug club event. "no, he probably is already going with pansy"
Hermione looks at Harry "you know they're just friends" she says.
"Yeah, and I'd be asking him as a friend, I mean Draco's not interested in me" Harry responds
Hermione gave up, she wasnt good at this love stuff.

Draco spent his seventh year worried about Harry, and Harry spent it watching draco pace around on the map in the Slytherin dorms. When Harry made his return to Hogwarts draco greeted him with a kiss in front of the entirety of dumbledore's army.

"So, you and draco huh? Another couple finalized by this..." Ron gestured wildly to indicate the whole battle that had happened.
"No, that... That was a heat of the moment thing, he was just happy to see me" Harry says.
"Come on you can't possibly be this dense, he kissed you it doesn't get more obvious than that" Hermione says.
"He's cute and... Merlin I'd be lucky to have him but this just... He- he can't-he doesn't... That kiss was a 'yay Harry's here to save us' not an I love you kiss"
Hermione and Ron both stare at Harry, appalled by the mental gymnastics Harry used to deny Draco's obvious crush on him.

"You selfless bastard!" Draco screams as he rushed towards Harry, finally seeing him after the battle of Hogwarts was over. "you are the most annoyingly selfless jackass I have ever met, did you even think about me when you wandered off to get yourself killed?" Draco slaps Harry and then kissed him again. "no because you're a noble selfish bastard" draco hits Harry's chest before hugging him. "Next time you're gonna do something stupid like that you need my permission, alright? And you don't get my permission because you are not allowed to get yourself killed doing some stupid noble thing"
Harry stares at draco"but we're all fine, everything's okay, right?"
"Did you really think Voldemort would keep his word? He still would have continued his plans regardless of if you sacrificed yourself or not, you're so stupid!"
Harry looked at draco confused, "so you're mad at me for sacrificing myself?"
"Yes because it was a stupidly noble thing to do!"
Harry nods "but you keep kissing me?"
"Because I'm glad you're alive, catch up potter" draco scoffs
"So are we... A couple?" Harry asks
"If you want" draco says
Harry nods "cool beans"
