More Of Us
Alex
Part 1
How I met Alex is something I can't really write about. All I remember is opening my eyes, making it to school when I became four and seeing her standing at the gate of our school. What more weird is the fact that I cringed at the sight of her and vowed never to be friends with her and bam! Here we are marking 14 years of our friendship together.
Upon entering I saw a girl, though she was dressed in girl's school uniform but she was invaded by a boyish soul - haircut, dressing and heck even the way she stood! I was a very girly girl compared to Alex. I had no interest in boys back then. I was anti-boys. The mere sight of her standing with two boys by her side made me frown even deeper. There was absolutely no way she could be my friend but I guess life can be full of surprises. We spent a couple of years before we found a mutual ground and became friends. Then we became friends of our friends - our other classmates. I became friends with boys and she became friends with girls.
That is how it started. We started calling and then there was a time when we talked to each other for at least half an hour from 5 to 5:30 every day. These calls continued till Prep I and now we hardly talk over phone calls. We talk on Skype now. Technology is growing isn't it? Though yes, now it's only when we have to plan events or when all the hell breaks loose.
Anyhow, over the years the two of us have been going to other's place to dance - be it our birthdays, be it our aunt's birthday or even our grandfather's birthday, hum tou nachein gay. (Translation: we'll dance no matter what!)
Our family had accepted the idea that we were going to dance every time we were going to meet. I remember doing it on annual functions, bonfires and other school functions. We never left any chance and we don't leave any now either. I remember once I tried to prepare our class for the annual function because our class teacher had asked me to. We had to dance wearing weird maroon skirts and black blouses. It was terribly awful of course because I didn't know the song and I still don't know which planet that belonged to. In the end, my teacher had taught us boring steps. It still turned out to be so terrible that my parents thought to use that skirt as a mop. Not literally, well.
I am sorry but that will be all you'll be finding in Alex's chapter. It's fitting, don't you think? I mean her name. Its like unisex. We all know boys named Alex and girls named Alex, yeah? Oh God! I just thought of it. Like I was writing and this thought came in and my fingers automatically added it. Man, I'm good!
Returning to what we were talking about before my rant came in, Alex, yeah Alex and I had a very interesting fight once. I mentioned before how I envied Riley when I was in fourth grade, right? Well, another reason for the green monster was that she was being a little too close to Alex for my liking.
