It was magical. Just her and Fitz...
-------------------------------------------
The night passed, and before she knew it, the dance was over.
"Are you ready to leave, Miss Foster?" Sandor asked Sophie as they left the ballroom.
"As ready as I'll ever be," she said. She still hadn't said goodbye to her friends. Guilt sunk in her stomach.
"The Black Swan wanted to meet you in the Forbidden Cities, correct?" Sandor said. "We'll need a blue leaping Crystal."
Sophie shook her head. "I can telepo-"
"SOPHIE!" Fitz called after her. She turned around. "Where are you going? You can come to Everglen with us." He gestured to Biana and Keefe at his side.
She pulled out a loose eyelash. She had to tell them. It was now or never.
"I'm leaving," she said. "I have to go join the Black Swan."
"Right now?" Keefe said. "The Black Swan can wait another da-"
"No, they can't wait. I already asked for another week. I have to leave. They need me."
"And you need me," someone said from behind.
"Dex?" Sophie asked, turning to see his silhouette in the moonlight.
"Only I can take off your circlet," he said. "Even with the earrings, you'll still want it off. So I'm coming with you."
Sophie shook her head. "No! If you want to take the circlet off you can do it here, but I can't take you with me!"
"Why not?"
"I don't want to tear you away from your world. I'm used to not belonging. I don't belong with humans in the Forbidden Cities and the Council made it very clear that I don't belong here in the Lost Cities. But you guys...."
"Belong with you," Keefe finished. "That's why we're coming with you."
"I can't let you leave-"
Keefe looked her in the eyes, all the jokes and light had left and in their place was a cold seriousness. "I don't have anything here. I'm coming with you."
Fitz wrapped his arm around Sophie. "And I'd never leave you," he said. "And the Black Swan wouldn't mind a super duo of Telepaths."
Sophie smiled. "Alright, you can come."
They all smiled. Keefe let out a cheer. "Yes! The Black Swan is going to get the best recruits they'll ever have!"
Sophie laughed as she led them up a steep hill outside Foxfire boundaries. Keefe immediately knew what she was doing.
"Are we going to Teleport?" He asked excitedly.
"Yes," Sophie said softly.
They all held hands, ready to jump at Sophie's word. She smiled, knowing that her friends were truly where she belonged.
She glanced at Fitz, her heart fluttering when he met her gaze. Were they more than friends?
Only time would tell.The End
