Chapter 9: It's a Jungle Out There... Pt.3

Shadow was here. Then he wasn't. Alarm rang in Sonic's ears. How could I lose him? He was just right here! He thought through this situation for a moment before panicking and running around to find him. If Shadow was any normal person, he'd just go looking around for Sonic. But Shadow was blind, which meant he couldn't exactly look around.

"Shit, shit, SHIT! Think, Sonic, think!" The azure hedgehog whisper-yelled to himself. Ok, since SHadow couldn't exactly 'run off' maybe he'd stay in the same spot they both got separated at. But Sonic couldn't tell which direction to go in the midst of the crowd of people everywhere. A lump in his throat formed, but Azure swallowed back his tears as he knew not all hope was lost.

He decided on going left, since a few of the Chinese structures looked familiar in that direction. He weaved and wandered around endless people, but none were Shadow. Tears were on the brink of falling as Sonic muttered weakly, "Cmon, Shadow, where are you? Oh, Chaos..."

There he was. Shadow sat on a nearby bench shaded by huge evergreen trees. He looked... distance, like he wasn't really there even though he was.

"Shadow! Oh, thank Chaos you're ok..." Sonic then looked blankly at Ebony when he didn't react to Sonic's presence. "Shadow..." He put a hand on his shoulder. Shadow pushed his hand off his shoulder, and looked down at the ground. The azure hedgehog then tried to grab Shadow's hand, only for him to not hold on.

Worry then entered Sonic's mind,"Shadz, what's wrong? Are you hurt?" He asked, slightly desperate for answers.

Yes. Shadow signed, his arms limp.

"Where?" Sonic said frantically.

The ebony hedgehog put his hand on the left side of his chest. It took a moment to realize what he meant.

"Oh." The blue blur's ears pinned to his head in shame, "I'm sorry. I-it just- it got crowded and I- I should've known that this wasn't a good idea with your vision gone, your other senses are heightened and all these people- We can go back home... i-if that's what you want."

Shadow thought for a moment. No. We can stay.

"O-oh, ok." Sonic then asked, "Do you... want to go somewhere else?"

Yes. Somewhere quiet. Shadow signed quickly.

"Alright, quiet, gotcha!" Sonic grinned slightly, before deflating a bit, "I have just the place in mind but it'll require us to go through the crowd of people again..."

No. Shadow signed, ears pinned to his head and eyes pleading.

Sonic said softly, calming Ebony down, "Ok, ok, I'll figure something out..." He scratched the back of his head, hand in his quills before he felt a smooth and cool object in his quills. He pulled it out and he immediately felt like the world's most stupid idiot. A pink chaos emerald, which he found to be ironic.

"A Chaos Emerald, of course." Sonic shook his head shamefully, smiling a bit. The only issue was getting Shadow to hold his hand. "You know how chaos control works, Shadz." Sonic grabbed Ebony's hand.

Shadow relented, fighting down the urge to dropkick Sonic then and there. They both took a deep breath before Sonic said boldly, "Chaos Control!"
