not proof read, when is it ever

It was a Friday night, the kind where the air outside felt crisp, the perfect balance between cool and cozy. Y/N and Renee sat on the couch in Renee's apartment, the soft glow of fairy lights illuminating the room with a gentle warmth. A bowl of popcorn sat between them, forgotten for the moment as they watched the credits roll on the movie they'd just finished.

Y/N turned her head, her gaze meeting Renee's. There was always something calming about looking at Renee, something grounding. Maybe it was the way she carried herself, always so sure but never overbearing. Or maybe it was the soft smile she wore when she was truly happy, like now, when their fingers were tangled together, both of them too comfortable to pull away.

"You know," Y/N started, breaking the silence, her voice a little quieter than usual. "I didn't think this would ever happen."

Renee raised an eyebrow, turning her body so that she was facing Y/N fully. "What do you mean?"

Y/N smiled softly, a little shy. "Us. Being together. I always kind of... figured it was a fantasy. A 'maybe one day' thing."

Renee's thumb brushed gently over Y/N's hand, her expression softening. "And now?"

"Now?" Y/N let out a breath, looking down at their intertwined fingers. "Now it feels like I've always known you were going to be in my life. Like all the stars finally aligned."

Renee's smile grew, a flash of vulnerability in her eyes that made Y/N's heart flutter. She leaned in, their foreheads gently touching. The space between them was filled with warmth, the quiet intimacy that only grew as they spent time together, getting to know each other in ways words couldn't fully explain.

"I was so scared," Renee admitted, her voice low. "Scared that I'd mess it up. Scared that you'd realize I'm not perfect."

Y/N pulled back slightly, her hands framing Renee's face. "Renee, you're perfect for me. Every little thing you do... It makes me feel more and more like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be."

Renee's breath hitched, and she closed her eyes for a moment, letting Y/N's words settle over her like a soft blanket. When she opened them again, she smiled, a genuine, full-hearted smile that made Y/N's chest tighten with affection.

"I think I've been falling in love with you every day," Renee whispered, her voice so tender it could have been mistaken for a secret.

Y/N's heart skipped a beat, her pulse quickening. She had always known, deep down, that she was falling for Renee. But hearing it out loud? It was a different kind of magic.

"I think I'm already there," Y/N whispered back, her thumb brushing over Renee's lips, tracing the outline of a smile she wanted to see every day for the rest of her life.

The moment stretched out, quiet and delicate, until Y/N finally leaned in and pressed her lips gently to Renee's. It wasn't rushed, but it wasn't cautious either. It was the kind of kiss that spoke of promises, of everything they were, and everything they were becoming.

When they pulled away, neither of them said anything. There was nothing left to say. The world outside didn't matter. In that moment, all that existed was them, the comfort of being in each other's arms, the certainty that they had found something real.

"I'm so glad we're here," Y/N murmured, resting her head on Renee's shoulder.

Renee nodded, wrapping her arm around Y/N, holding her close. "Me too, baby. Me too."

The quiet that followed wasn't uncomfortable. It was the kind of silence that spoke volumes, a shared understanding between them that they didn't need to fill the space with words. They could just be, and that was enough.

After a few minutes, Y/N shifted, pulling away just slightly to look at Renee. "You know, it's funny..."

Renee raised her eyebrows. "What?"

Y/N grinned, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I spent so much time trying to figure out what was missing from my life, and I never realized it was you."

Renee's laugh bubbled up, light and full of affection. "You're cheesy, you know that?"

Y/N shrugged playfully, her grin widening. "I'm just speaking the truth."

Renee shook her head, though her smile didn't fade. She leaned in again, kissing the tip of Y/N's nose. "I like your truth."

The warmth between them shifted slightly, becoming something deeper, something even more intimate. It wasn't just the act of being close. It was the unspoken understanding of how much they meant to each other. They had both been hurt in the past, both had scars that told stories of love lost and trust betrayed. But now, here they were, rebuilding in the softest, gentlest way possible, one moment at a time.

Y/N brushed her hand through Renee's hair, fingers slipping through the soft strands. "Do you ever wonder how we ended up here? Like, how we went from just... two people who were friends, to this?" She paused, her eyes searching Renee's. "To us."

Renee's gaze softened, her eyes warm and steady. "All the time. It feels like everything was leading us here. I know that sounds cheesy too, but... I don't think it was an accident. We were always meant to be in each other's lives. Maybe we just needed to realize it."

Y/N sighed contentedly, her eyes slipping shut as she rested her head against Renee's chest. "I used to think I was just going through the motions of life. Like I had this invisible checklist that needed to be filled in—school, work, friendships, the occasional date. But then I met you, and suddenly none of that mattered."

Renee's voice was soft, full of warmth as she replied, "It's because you stopped just living for the checklist, and started living for yourself. For us. And I'm really grateful for that."

The quiet returned, but it was a comfortable quiet, one that spoke of shared moments, shared dreams, and shared futures. Y/N let herself drift, resting against the steady rhythm of Renee's heartbeat, a sound that somehow made everything feel right.

Eventually, the movie credits ended and the apartment was plunged into silence, save for the hum of the fridge in the next room. But it didn't matter. Nothing mattered more than this.

"I'm not scared anymore," Renee murmured, breaking the quiet with the honesty in her voice. "Not with you. I'm not scared of us."

Y/N turned her head slightly, her lips curving into a small smile. "Good. Because I'm not scared either. I've never been more certain of anything in my life."

For the first time in a long while, Y/N didn't feel the weight of uncertainty or the fear of what was to come. It didn't matter what the future held—she knew that as long as she had Renee by her side, everything would be okay.

And as she closed her eyes once more, drifting into the peaceful embrace of the night, she felt the quiet certainty of a love that was exactly where it was supposed to be.

In that moment, nothing else mattered.
