Saturday finally arrived and Castiel was up extra early to do some last minute party planning. He was prepared to make his son's party so amazing that Dean would be jealous and disappointed in himself for not showing up.

Dean's brother and his fiancé Monica were flying all the way from California for the party. Their flight had arrived the night before but they stayed with Monica's family. Cas had also invited a few friends of his from the Children's Safe Development class he brought Bobby to on Tuesdays.

The party started at noon so that Cas could get Bobby home in time for his nap at three. Castiel decided to arrive at the park at eleven so he could set up the decorations and greet all the guests. Dean had, unfortunately, left the house on time that morning and went to work. Cas couldn't believe how stupid Dean was being, but he decided not to let his bad attitude spoil the day.

Sam, who was picking up Castiel and Bobby, pulled into the driveway and honked the horn. "Are you ready Bobby?" Castiel cooed, his arms overflowing with bags full of food and decorations. Bobby gurgled in response and attempted to throw a plastic hammer at the wall of his playpen.

"That sounds like a yes!" Cas dropped the bags outside the front door for Sam to put in the car before retrieving Bobby and buckling him into the car.

"So," Monica said as Sam pulled out of the driveway. "Why isn't Dean coming to the party?"

"Well," Cas fidgeted in his seat. "Dean...had work. Today. During the party."

"That sucks," Monica said. "He couldn't even get the day off?"

"I guess not. He's been late a few times because..." Cas swallowed, "because of the baby." He hated lying to Sam and Monica.

"Too bad. If you want, we can swing by the house tonight," Sam offered.

"That sounds great!" Cas said. "That is, if it's okay with Dean. I'm not sure if he'll be up to it."

"Whatever works for you guys. We're in town until Wednesday."

They pulled into the park and Sam helped Cas unload the decorations while Monica carried Bobby.

"You can take him to the swings while we setup," Cas said to Monica. She nodded and walked towards the playground area. Sam and Castiel found two empty picnic tables and spread blue tablecloths over the rough wooden surfaces.

After decorating, Cas picked at the sticky part of a paper spiral nervously. He had been excited for the party but now he wasn't sure if it was worth it. He loved Dean and didn't want a simple party to hurt their relationship.

Guests starting arriving at twelve which gave Castiel and excuse to stop thinking about Dean. Cas greeted the moms from his and Bobby's class and played with Bobby on the swings. Everyone chatted and laughed and ate. Cas smirked when nobody commented on the lack of cake. What did Dean know anyway?

At around one, Cas decided it was time to give Bobby his first solid food. He glanced around the parking, hoping Dean would make one of his surprise appearances, but he didn't. Cas sighed and stared at the ground, disappointed. This was a special moment for him and their son and Dean couldn't even be bothered to show up.

"Okay everyone," Cas called. "Bobby's about to have his first solid food!" The crowd of moms scooped up their babies and rushed to the picnic table where Bobby was displayed. Cas placed a bowl of applesauce with a small plastic spoon in front of Bobby.

Cas lifted the spoon to Bobby's mouth and paused. He looked over to the parking lot and saw Dean walking over. Only it wasn't Dean, it was just some guy who was bringing his child to see her grandmother.

Cas offered the gooey applesauce to Bobby who happily accepted and ate the whole spoonful.

The party was starting to die down after Bobby finished his applesauce. "Don't forget to invite me to Lindsey's half-birthday, Karen," Cas said as a guest left with their baby.

Just as the majority of the guests were about to leave, Sam shouted, "Hey, you made it!"
