"Putain, it's in the middle of nowhere," Damien curses in confusion, his eyes scanning the hologram before him. (Fuck)
Ezra, Damien, Anna and I along with a few other agents, unfortunately, including Kathy, have gathered in one of the meeting rooms, huddled around the hologram projector in the middle of the room, where Damien has typed in the coordinates given by D'Angelo. The coordinates point to the middle of a random large grass patch, in some rural area in New Jersey. There are no buildings near it and no structures of considerable suspicion.
Just grass.
Which can't be it, so there has to be some trick we need to solve.
"All of this for some papers? Jesus. Did this guy have nothing better to do?" She rolls her eyes, crossing one leg over the other and looking away.
I turn to glare at her, because that's my father she's talking about, but Ezra beats me to it.
"Shut the fuck up." He doesn't even turn to look at her.
We mull over the hologram for a while, some of us circling it, some checking up locations on their tablets.
"Well I guess it's underground," I mention lightly, just to get the conversation going.
"Yeah no shit, what? You expect us to bring some shovels and start digging till we reach it?" Kathy pipes up again unnecessarily.
Ezra is about to start again, but I've had enough.
"Get out."
"Huh?'
"Get the fuck out. You wanna be petty? Go take it out on some kiddy party and leave the work to the adults."
She looks up at me, flabbergasted.
"You can't let her treat me like that," she looks at everyone else.
"You better fucking listen to her because if I have to intervene, you're fired." Ezra speaks deathly quiet from behind me.
She sulks and walks out.
"ECHA, add 'dig down' to the list of possible plans." The words appear in a numbered list on a separate hologram board.
"There could be an underground network or building we don't know about, that only the people in the area might know. Like a storehouse or something," Anna pipes up, and ECHA immediately writes that down.
"Damien, call a few locals in the area and gather as much information as possible about it. Ask about the history of the area and the significance of the land, but don't make it obvious that we're interested in it. We can't let this information get into any hands," Ezra instructs.
A few minutes later Damien returns with some information. Apparently, the area was known for its secret storage of weapons and other information. There are many implanted storage units/warehouses/labs beneath this specific area of New Jersey. Many of them have secret entrances, but it's difficult to figure out where they might be. Apparently, most of them are placed in the basements of people's houses so accessibility is contained.
"That's insane, there might be an unlimited number of entrances in an unlimited number of places, and it'll take us forever to get from the entrance to the main coordinates since there's nothing around it."
"Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think my father would have wanted the entrance to be in any random person's house, it would have to be in the house of someone he trusted or somewhere where he knew the person who had access to it wouldn't take advantage of it."
"She's right," Ezra muses, "Got a clue on who might have lived in New Jersey?"
"Giordano."
Their eyebrows raise. We continue planning.
