(6 Months Later)
Currently at a quaint little cafe, Hatori sat absently stirring her coffee waiting for Shino. It had been a long time since they last met, and a part of her was excited to catch up. Just as she was about to check her phone, she heard someone calling her.
???: Hatori!
Looking up, Hatori saw Shino approaching, smiling. Hatori waved, a grin spreading across her face.
Hatori: Shino!
Shino made her way to the table, sitting down in the chair across from her.
Shino: Wow, it's been forever! I'm so glad we could finally meet up.
Hatori: Me too. How's everything? I heard you're leading your own team at your Agency.
Hearing this, Shino rubbed her head sheepishly.
Shino: Yeah...! I'm still getting used to it...
Hatori: Sounds rough. But you always did thrive under pressure. You'll make an amazing leader.
As the two placed their orders, Hatori felt a warm sense of nostalgia wash over her. As the two continued to catch up, Hatori spoke up, sparkling a new conversation.
Hatori: So... How are things going with your boyfriend? You two seemed pretty serious...
Hearing this, Shino's smile faltered slightly, and she looked down at her hands, tracing the rim of her coffee cup.
Shino: Um... well, about that...
Hatori looked confused as she saw the change in Shino's demeanor.
Hatori: What's wrong?
Taking a deep breath, Shino finally met Hatori's gaze, her expression somber.
Shino: I... I broke up with him....
Hatori's eyes widened in surprise hearing this.
Hatori: Oh... I'm sorry.... What happened?
Shino hesitated, her fingers intertwining nervously.
Shino: At first, everything was great. We had fun, we laughed... it felt right. But as time went on, I couldn't help... I couldn't help but think of Raiken...
The name hung in the air like an uninvited guest, and Hatori's heart raced.
Hatori: R-Raiken? But I thought you moved on from him...
Shino: I thought I did too...
Shino replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Shino: But I realized I couldn't keep pretending. I still love him, Hatori. I miss him...
The confession struck Hatori like a bolt of lightning. She felt a mix of shock and sympathy.
Shino: I understand why he did it...
Shino said, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Shino: He was only looking out for me. But I can't help how I feel. I want to be with him, no matter what...
Hatori looked down, her heart heavy. She thought of her own tangled relationship with Raiken—how they had been drawn to each other in secret, with their secret sexual relationship...
Hatori: I'm so sorry, Shino...
She murmured, her voice filled with regret.
Shino: Hey, don't apologize.
