"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever."
-Alfred Tennyson
CHAPTER 1: Group Project Gone Right?
There he is, looking as perfect and beautiful as always. I watch him fight a smile and then fill the hallway with his laughter, his brownish-black hair spilling onto his sparkling light blue eyes. I admire his perfectly tanned skin and his perfectly toned body and his perfectly perfect smile. I try to search for some imperfection to make me feel better, but I come up with nothing.
He is actually perfect.
Yet, I would never be able to tell him these things. Even though we've been in a couple classes together since Freshman year, the most he's ever done is nod in my direction and dazzle me with a polite smile. I don't know if he even knows my name or who I am. I'm not even that shy of a person, but every time it comes to him, I become a fumbling idiot, who can't piece the right words together into a sentence.
He glances at his phone and inclines his head toward the left, saying goodbye to all his friends. I watch him walk down the hallway until he disappears completely from my sight. I faintly remember we have class, but somehow I can't seem to turn my head away from the direction he just walked into.
The bell rings and I immediately snap out of my daze, a light blush spreading across my cheeks. Once again, I've gotten late to class due to admiring him. I quickly grab my Physics textbook out of my locker and throw my backpack over my shoulders.
My dark brown hair flies in every direction as I sprint through a labyrinth of hallways. We share this class together, one of the only reasons I look forward to it.
"Oh, Ms. Trivoli, thank you for joining class," Mr. Holman says sarcastically, shooting me an irritated look.
I hastily apologize and quickly scramble into my reserved and empty seat, situated between Lila and Sheena, my two best friends.
"I'm willing to bet a thousand dollars Pierce was the reason you were late... again," Lila whispers, a smug smirk on her face.
I ignore her and start doodling on the first blank page of my notebook.
"Oh, please, Lila. The only reason Cassie here would be late is because of Pierce. Not that I would blame her. I mean, he's freaking ho- Holy crap, he's looking at you, Cass! Stay calm, stay calm," Sheena whispers, sounding anything but calm herself.
My head snaps up and for a second his eyes pierce into mine. My heart rate picks up as he smiles a little at me before turning back around. He sits ahead of me at the desk diagonal from me, the perfect place to secretly creep on him.
"Holy mother of God," Sheena whispers again. "He looked at you. And smiled." She giggles and elbows me in the side, being as obvious as only Sheena could be.
"Sheena, shut up! He's going to hear you!" Lila whisper-yells across me.
I raise my eyes to the heavens in a silent plea. My two friends' voices begin to get louder and louder. I sigh heavily and give my best friends a look I have reserved for them. "If you two don't calm the hell down right now," I threaten, "I will - and trust me when I say this - I will kill you."
Lila and Sheena grin but shut up, much to my relief. I turn my attention back to Mr. Holman and rest my head on my arms.
"-understand? Just memorize this painfully easy Venn Diagram of colors. Remember: blue, green, and red are primary colors. Cyan, magenta, and yellow are secondary colors. And when all those colors come together, you get white! Not too bad, huh?"
