A/N: This chapter is dedicated to vveirdo because her books are so, so good. Like the amount of talent in the little amount of work she has posted is actually amazing. Thanks for inspiring me to continue writing in the hopes of being at least a little inspiring like you are. I wish you the best with your writing career, and I hope you never stop writing because you are as unique and as talented of a writer as it gets.
Anyway, enough of my sappy emotions. Enjoy this chapter!
"I think that we are like stars. Something happens to burst us open; but when we burst open and think we are dying; we're actually turning into a supernova. And then when we look at ourselves again, we see that we're suddenly more beautiful than we ever were before!"
- C. Joybell C.CHAPTER 5: Stargazing
I wake up to the sound of a click of a camera at an hour that is much too early. I rub my eyes and yawn before opening my eyes to see a grinning Ross standing up in front of me with his phone in my face. I feel disoriented and I stare at Ross in confusion for a couple seconds, wondering how he got in my room.
"Why'd you take a picture of me?" I ask slowly. "And how did you get into my room?" I mumble sleepily, eyebrows wrinkled in confusion.
"As much as I'd love to get in your room, Cassie, you're not in your room. Maybe you should check your surroundings." Ross smirks at me, seeming very entertained.
I pick up my head from something heavy and straighten my sore back. I look around, and my eyes widen in complete shock as I realize I'm in Pierce's room on his bed, my head inches away from Pierce's shoulder, probably my last night's pillow.
"You're so lucky Mom and Dad didn't come by Pierce's room last night, otherwise who knows what would've happened," Ross muses.
"Crap, crap, crap," I say, jumping out of the bed, ignoring him completely once I finally come to my full senses. "Mom is going to murder me!"
Ross starts to laugh, but I ignore him and check my phone. 18 missed calls from Mom, 13 missed calls from Dad, and 23 missed calls from Parker. I am dead meat.
I glance over at a still-sleeping Pierce, who looks like an angel, even with his mouth hanging open. I toss my phone up and down in my hands, wondering what to do, when I finally decide to suck it up and call my mom.
3 rings. 4 rings. Maybe she won't pick up. This is good. Okay, breathe.
"CASSIE, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? ARE YOU OKAY? YOU DIDN'T COME HOME YESTERDAY? WHAT HAPPENED?"
"Ow," I mutter, pulling the phone a couple of inches away from my ears. I bring it back to my ear and take a deep breath. "Hi, Mom. Sorry for not calling. I accidentally fell asleep at my partner's house after we finished the project. I know that was really bad, but it was an accident. I promise."
"Couldn't you have called? We called the police and Parker has been searching for you all night! You've never been this irresponsible before, Cassie. What is wrong with you?" Mom scolds.
I grimace. "Mom, I'm really sorry. I was going to come home - promise! It's just that we finished the project late, and I fell asleep without knowing it. Please tell the police, Dad, and Parker I'm fine."
"Yeah, I will. You better come home right now, young lady. You are in big trouble." Mom hangs up on me, and I stare at the phone miserably. Who's going to save me now?
Ross, who was watching and probably listening to the whole conversation, comes over and pats my shoulder reassuringly. "It's okay, Cassie. Shit happens."
I crack a smile. "Yeah, I guess. Will you tell Pierce I had to go urgently, please? I really have to leave like right now."
"Sure, no problem. Good luck."
