The rain pelted down, drenching her to the bone as she ran blindly through the empty streets. The cold seeped into her skin, but she felt nothing-only the burning ache in her chest. Her breath came in ragged gasps, her bare feet splashing through puddles, but the storm inside her was far more relentless than the one raging above.

"Everything has a price to pay."

Chestha's words echoed in her mind, not in cruelty, but in quiet resignation.

Virendra's mocking voice sliced through her thoughts.

"You were sold, Tara like once your mother were sold"

She shook her head, trying to drown it out, but another voice filled the space instead.

Surya's voice.

"Yes, I paid a certain amount to your father."

Tara stumbled over a broken stone, her knee hitting the pavement hard. Pain shot up her leg, but she barely felt it. The rain mixed with her tears as she sat there, shaking, struggling to breathe.

She had begged him to deny it. To tell her that their marriage was more than just a deal. That she wasn't just something to be bought and owned.

But all he had given her was the truth.

A sob tore through her as she pulled her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around herself.

Where could she go now? She couldn't return to the Rathore mansion-not after tonight. And her father's house...

She had spent her whole life trying to earn a place in a home that had never truly been hers. Chestha had never been cruel to her, but she had always been practical, preparing Tara for a world that saw women as pawns in a bigger game.

"I wanted you to have a future where you wouldn't have to fight for scraps, Tara."

Had that been her mistake? Had she been foolish to believe she could have something more?

The rain poured harder, the streets empty and unforgiving. The night stretched endlessly before her, and for the first time in her life, she truly felt like she had nowhere to belong.

She had been running, but she didn't know where to go.

Because where did a woman go when both the past and the future had betrayed her?

Tara flinched as the bright headlights blinded her, the harsh glow cutting through the relentless downpour. She barely had time to react as the black SUV came to a screeching halt in front of her, its headlights cutting through the heavy downpour. The world around her blurred-rain lashing against her skin, her heart hammering in her chest, and her breath coming in ragged gasps.

Before she could turn and run, the car door swung open.

A tall figure stepped out, his presence striking terror deep within her. The dim street lights illuminated his face, and her blood ran cold.
