Wendy barely understood what was happening. One moment she was watching Peter gain his magic back, the next, she started to feel something brush against the back of her stomach. It continued to dig its way into her body before her whole world went black.
Was this what it was like to die?
It was like she was stuck in a world full of nothing. Everything was black, as if she was sleeping, but she hadn't recalled closing her eyes. Only faint noises from where she had previously been could be heard, and sharp pains were throbbing in her.
This was most certainly what it was like to die.
She was too young to die. If she was able to cry at that instant she would have. Nearby, Wendy heard sobs, presumably from Peter.
Oh, how she loved him.
It was almost too much for her own good and that made her start to hate herself for dying. Why would the world separate what was meant to be together? As if her heart wasn't already broken, it continued to break as the pain started numbing her entire being, or at least what was left of it.
She didn't want to leave Peter. He had nothing left anymore. Even in his eyes there was a desperate loneliness that needed to be filled. There was a longing...a longing for her. It was never really a secret to her. He always treated her differently from other girls, but how she wished they could have said the words.
I love you.
His sobs continued to grow louder and she heard him saying something but she couldn't understand it. A warm sensation of numbness took over her whole body and she went completely limp. Everything was dark, and her hearing was gone for only a few moments. It seemed like a whole other world until she heard jingling in her ears.
Surprised at the ability to hear and react, she opened her eyes. There was Neverland, right in front of her, and Tinkerbell too! But no Peter. "What happened? I-I thought I was dead."
Tinkerbell stroked her chin and sprinkled a bit of pixie dust on Wendy, which immediately made her sneeze. "Can you understand me now? I never wanted to do this but I will have to talk to you now."
Just like Tinkerbell to make snide comments toward Wendy even after a crisis. "Yes Tinkerbell. I understand you."
"Peter gave up his magic to save you. Because he did this, he was banished by Neverland to somewhere on the Mainland in London. He's lost all memory of Neverland."
As if there hadn't been enough on Wendy's mind, Tinkerbell added more. She almost choked. "Peter's memories of Neverland..? Gone? As in...memories of me?"
Tinkerbell nodded, as if she was expecting this kind of reaction. "Peter knew the risk, but he wanted you to live. The bond between you, Peter, and Neverland is broken because of this. But I believe you may be able to jog his memories somehow. He admired you a lot."
Wendy's hands were trembling. "This is awful...if I would have never come here this wouldn't have happened...Oh Peter-"
Tinkerbell immediately interrupted her. She looked up at the fairy curiously with glimmering blue eyes. "He loves you Wendy."
Her heart dropped to her stomach.
What?
"There's no way he loves me.." She tried to ration, almost nervously. Although she always believed he loved her, it embarrassed her to hear it out loud . "He fought me just the other day about it. He's Peter Pan, he doesn't believe in love."
"He gave up his entire life so yours could be restored. Don't give up on him just because of a few memories that are missing."
Wendy almost started crying. Tinkerbell really believed in her. For once, the fairy was actually on her side.
