Rain's POV:
Kakashi and I had been friends now for a good fourteen years. Kakashi was twenty-six, and I was twenty-four. During the last fourteen years, he and I had been on countless missions: most of them A or B-ranked, and over half of them with us being on the same squad. Rin had been killed during a mission, and I had decided to actually try and make some friends. Only, some was a relative term. I was friends with every Jounin that we had gratuated with or known in school.I had been through a few relationships, but nothing serious. For some reason, being able to see into the souls and minds of others kind of killed the relationship quickly. So, after a while, I just stopped getting into relationships, just sticking to friends.
During the last four years or so,Kakashi and I had been given ghenin. Following the traditions of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, we used the infamous bell-test to see who would earn the right of the title 'ninja.' Every single team we had been sent we had turned down, as none of them would work together. Oh, yeah. Did I mention that the third Hokage appointed Kakashi and I to work together? Yeah. Don't get me wrong, we were very good friends, but you can only take so much of a guy, you know? Still, no matter how much we got on each other's nerves, we would always be the best of friends at the end of the day. And, every day, we would visit the K.I.A. stone; Kakashi to mourn Obito and Rin, and me to mourn them, and my parents. He had picked up on Obito's habits of being late and only focusing on teamwork. I was a bit quieter, but would never pass up an oppurtunity for a good prank. I was still always late, and always came up with stupid excuses, another trait Kakashi picked up from Obito.
Today, however, was the day that Kakashi and I were to get another team. We stood at the K.I.A. stone, waiting for when we were supposed to go pick up Team 7.
Me: "Hey, Kakashi?"
Kakashi: "Hmm?"
Me: "We should get going."
Kakashi: "Why do you say that?"
Me: "Because we're four hours late."
Kakashi: "Really?"
Me: "No. I'm just saying four hours because it was the first number I thought of." he looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "Oh. Yeah, I guess I would do that. But seriously, we're four hours late."
Kakashi: "Ok, ok. Let's go." he said, and we walked towards the academy. "Remember, it's your turn to give the test."
Me: "Yeah, right! I gave the last one!" I said. He chuckled. "Hey, am I going to have to kick your ass again in front of ghenin, or are you going to admit it's your turn." He chuckled again, and I nodded. I used my Byakugan as we entered the academy.
Kakashi: "Well?"
Me: "They're almost exactly like our team was...Looks and all..." I muttered, thinking of our team. I shook my head, stowing away the memories. "There's one like you, named Sasuke. Ooh, he's the Uchiha kid. Interesting. Then there's one like Rin; Sakura Haruno. And finally, there's one like the Number One Loudest, Unpredictable, Hyperactive Knuckleheaded Ninja that saved our lives. Wow. He's the boy with the Nine-Tailed Fox inside him, Naruto Uzumaki."
Kakashi: "Altogether, an interesting team. Now, if they could work together, then maybe they'll pass the test."
Me: "Yeah. But don't count on it. There's not a Rain Hyuga among them." I said, smiling.
Kakashi: "You're hilarious."
Me: "Yes, I know. Now, after you, Kakashi sensei. Your turn to give the test, you go first."
Ok, I'd like to point out now that I would've said that even if there wasn't a chalkboard eraser over the door. My prank that Minato had fallen for. And Kakashi would fall for it, too. How did I know? Because he didn't suspect that two people who had never talked before would ever come up with the same prank. He slid the door open, stuck his head through, and...plop! Got hit in the head with a chalk-board eraser. I smirked and walked into the class, high-fiving Naruto. Kakashi picked up the eraser, put his thumb and pointer finger to his chin and looked at the ceiling.
Kakashi: "Hmm...How should I put this? My first impression of this group is...you're a bunch of idiots."
Me: "Aw, come on! Like you didn't find it funny when Minato fell for that!"
Kakashi: "No, actually, I didn't."
Me: "Are we forgetting my little ability? You found it funny." he sweatdropped, and did a closed eye smile, rubbing the back of his neck.
Kakashi: "Well, let's all go up to the roof, and introduce ourselves, shall we?" he waited until everyone was out of earshot, then turned on me. "You knew the eraser was there!" I nodded. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Me: "I guess I just forgot." I said, innocently.
Kakashi sighed and we walked together to the roof, walking by a few chuunin instructors. I raised an eyebrow at a few of them as they walked by.
Kakashi: "What's that look for?"
Me: "They think we're dating."
Kakashi: "Are you serious?!" I nodded. "I would never date you, and don't know anyone who would want to!"
I growled and punched him in the shoulder. Hard. Even transfered some chakra into the punch to make it hurt more. Then I stalked off to the roof, leaving behind a very perplexed Kakashi. We all got to the roof and I leaned in my usual spot (the same place I had leaned when I had met Minato) with my arms crossed and my head to the ground. But I was really staring at the group with my Byakugan, seeing if I could tell anything.
Kakashi: "Ok, why don't you introduce yourseves? One at a time."
Sakura: "Introduce ourselves? What do you mean?"
Kakashi: "Things that you like, things that you hate, dreams for the future, hobbies. Things like that."
Naruto: "Why don't you go first? I mean before we talk, tell us about you so we know how it's supposed to work."
Kakashi: "Me? I'm Kakashi Hatake. Things I like and things I hate...I don't feel like telling you that. My dreams for the future...never really thought about it. As for my hobbies...I have lots of hobbies."
Sakura's thoughts were interesting at that. And she had a point. The only thing they learned was his name. Still, I had a smart-alec comment. I looked up at him.
Me: "Oi! Kakashi!" He looked at me, but I was still mad at him. I was still glaring at him, but it didn't look like it unless you've known me for years, and my voice was completely pleasant. "You stole that from me fourteen years ago. Now I have nothing to say." But even though to the ghenin it sounded like I was joking, Kakashi could tell I was still mad at him. He sighed and turned to the team again.Kakashi: "You can start." he said, pointing at Naruto.
Naruto: "Believe it! I'm Naruto Uzumaki. I like instant ramen in a cup, and I really like the ramen Iruka-sensei got me at the Ichiraki Noodle Shop. But I hate the three minutes you have to wait after you pour the water in the ramen cup. My hobby is eating different kinds of ramen and comparing them. And my future dream is to be the greatest hokage! Then the whole village will stop disrespecting me and start treating me like I'm somebody--- somebody important!"
Kakashi: "How about you?"
Sakura: "I'm Sakura Haruno! I like...well, the person I like is..." she looked at Sasuke. "And my hobby is...well, my dream is to..." at every break, she would look at Sasuke and giggle.
Kakashi: "And what do you hate?"
Sakura: "Naruto."Kakashi: "And you?"
Sasuke: "My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anything. What I have is not a dream, because I will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan, and destroy a certain...someone."
Naruto was thinking something along the lines of: I hope he doesn't mean me! But I was searching the kid's mind, looking for who he was talking about. I sighed and turned my Byakugan off. Of course...I should've thought about that. His brother had killed off the entire Uchiha clan, except for him. But revenge wasn't the way to go. I looked at Kakashi. Even without my Byakugan, I knew he was thinking the same thing. It didn't change the fact that I was still mad at him. He looked over to me, but I was still giving him the death glare. He explained the bell test to the ghenin and left slowly. I poofed myself back home without a word and laid on the couch, glaring at the ceiling. Kakashi walked in the house, and I stood and went to my room, slamming the door behind me.
Kakashi: "Rain?" He said from the other side of the door. I used my Byakugan to see him holding his nose. I smirked, but was still mad. "Come on, talk to me!"
Me: "Why?"
Kakashi: "Because you just did." I threw a kunai at the door. He walked in and dodged another kunai and three shuriken that I threw just for the heck of it. "If you're not going to talk to me, at least tell me why you're so mad."
Me: "Gee, I wonder. Think really hard, Scarecrow." I snapped.
Kakashi sat next to me on the bed. I saw that he realized what he had said and that he was sorry. I sat up next to him, staring at the wall.
Kakashi: "I'm sorry, Rain. I didn't mean it like that." I scoffed and looked down at the floor. He picked up my arm. I tensed. "How did this happen?" He asked, meaning the scar that I had aquired after Sakumo had died.
Me: "I didn't really know where I was going that day, but I ended up at the stone...I didn't even realize I had done it until Rin came and healed it..."
Kakashi: "You did this?" I nodded. "When?"
The memories that I had pushed to the back of my mind flooded me. Sakumo's body on the floor, the note saying he couldn't handle it anymore, knowing that others hated him because he saved my life...I started hyperventilating and held my head in my hands.
Me: "I am so sorry, Kakashi. I should have never gone on that mission. If I hadn't gotten cornered..."
Kakashi: "Rain..." he pulled me into his armsand I cried for the first time in fourteen years.
Me: "I am so sorry..." I muttered, over and over.
Kakashi: "It wasn't your fault, Rain. Didn't we convince you of that then?"
Me: "Why won't you hate me for this?! If I wasn't on that mission, he never would have had to save me!" I yelled at him. But he stayed perfectly calm. "Blame me, yell at me, hate me!"
Kakashi: "Why?" he sounded amused.
Me: "Because that's the logical and rational response!" I said, still yelling.
Kakashi: "How can I do that when my best friend is in so much pain?"
Me: "You are so...so..."
Kakashi: "So...?"
Me: "Ugh! You are so infuriating!" I snapped, walking away from the smiling, chuckling Kakashi.
I walked out of the house and ran to the training grounds, then started punching everything in sight. Unfortunately for the trees, the only thing in sight was...well, trees. I imagined the tree was me and threw insults as well as punches at myself. Finally, the anger got to be too much, and I fell to my knees, still punching the tree, but with tears streaming down my face.
Me: "You worthless...piece...of...IT'S YOUR FAULT!" I roared.
Iruka: "Rain? Is that you?"
Me: "No! It's Yukie Fujikaze!" I snapped, punching the tree again.
Iruka: "Really?!" he said, running over. He saw me, and frowned.
Me: "Pathetic, Iruka. Do you really think Yukie Fujikaze would be here screaming it's her fault that her best friends father killed himself?" I punched the tree again.
Iruka: "How many times did you punch that tree?"
Me: "Enough to get some of my self-hatred out." I said, then stood up. "I'd better be getting back...I've got to make that lazy-ass dinner."
Iruka: "You're bleeding."
Me: "Huh?"
Iruka: "Here, let me look at that." he said, taking my arm. I looked down and saw my hand covered in blood. I got the feeling of deja vu, and the memories of Sakumo's death flooded back. I held my head in my hands. "Rain? What's wrong?"
I shook my head, and everything started getting blurry and dark. Too many memories...I passed out.
