Days Turn into Weeks

Time moved forward, but Yibo felt stuck in the past.

One day, two days... and soon, five days were gone.

Every morning, Yibo still had to go to work, but the moment his shift ended, he rushed to the hospital. He never went home. He never left Zhan alone.

At night, he sat beside Zhan's hospital bed.

Zhan never spoke.

Not to him. Not to anyone.

The only sound in the room was the steady beeping of the hospital monitor and the soft sound of Zhan's breathing.

Their baby was still in the ICU, fighting for his life.

The doctor told them they could visit only during specific hours. Other than that, they had to wait.

And Zhan...

Zhan only cried.

Silent tears, rolling down his pale cheeks.

He didn't scream. He didn't sob. He didn't fight.

He just lay there, his arms limp by his sides, his body weak from the trauma.

The doctor explained, "He might have postpartum depression. That's why he's acting like this."

But Yibo knew better.

This wasn't just depression.

This was pain. Pain that he had caused.

The most heartbreaking part?

Zhan couldn't even breastfeed their baby.

His body was too weak. The milk wasn't coming in.

The nurses had to feed the baby with formula instead.

Yibo saw the way Zhan looked at himself in the mirror-

Like he wasn't a person anymore.

Like he had lost something that could never be recovered.

And Yibo knew...

He had done this to him.

------------

A week later
*************

Seven days later, they received good news.

Their baby was finally strong enough to be discharged.

Zhan held him for the first time that day properly in his arms.

His thin arms cradled the small, fragile infant. His fingers traced over the soft skin of his tiny hands.

The nurses and doctors smiled.

They thought this would be a beautiful moment.

A moment of healing.

But Zhan...

Didn't react.

He simply stared down at the baby, his expression unreadable

There was a joy but it seems like it fades somewhere .

He feels relief.

Like he get everything he wants.

Carmen Lee, Yibo's mother, stepped forward.

"You should come home with us, Zhan," she said gently. "I'll take care of both of you."

Zhan shook his head. "I want to go back to my house."

His voice was cold.

Unmovable.
