Days passed since the confrontation with the Xiao family. The cottage, which had once felt like a home, now felt like a sanctuary.

The world outside seemed distant, and within the walls, Zhan and Yibo found solace in each other's presence, slowly rebuilding their lives together.

Zhan sat by the window, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The world seemed quieter now, almost peaceful, but he couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that lingered inside him.

His family, what was left of it, had torn him apart, and even now, the wounds felt fresh.

Yibo, ever the protective presence, stood behind him, his hands resting lightly on Zhan's shoulders.

"Still thinking about them?" Yibo asked softly.

Zhan shrugged, his gaze fixed on the fading light outside. "I don't know. I keep wondering why... Why couldn't they believe me? After everything..."

Yibo's fingers tightened around his shoulders in a comforting gesture. "Because they're blind, Zhan. They refused to see the truth, and now they have to live with that."

"I just..." Zhan's voice cracked slightly. "I thought maybe, just maybe, they'd change. But they never did."

Yibo moved to sit next to him, his presence steady and unwavering.

"They're not worth your time anymore. You don't owe them anything, Zhan. You have me, and our son. That's all that matters now."

Zhan turned his head to look at Yibo, his heart aching at the depth of love he saw in his eyes.

"I just feel so lost sometimes. Like I don't belong anywhere."

Yibo cupped his face gently, his thumb brushing away a stray tear. "You belong with me. And you belong here, with our family."

Just then, their son cooed from the crib, the soft sound breaking the tension that hung between them. Zhan smiled faintly, feeling the warmth of his son's innocence wrap around him like a blanket.

"Look at him," Zhan whispered. "He has no idea what happened."

Yibo chuckled softly. "He doesn't need to know. Let him grow up in a world full of love and safety, away from all the darkness."

They both stood, walking over to the crib where their little one was waking up. Zhan gently scooped the baby into his arms, his heart swelling with affection.

The child was a symbol of everything they had fought for, new beginnings, fresh starts, a love that was pure and untainted by the past.

As they stood there together, Yibo kissed the top of Zhan's head.

"We'll make sure he never has to experience the things we did. He'll have a family that loves him, no matter what."

Zhan nodded, his throat tight. "I just want him to have the chance we never had. A chance to be happy. To be safe."

Yibo kissed him again, this time on the lips, a soft, lingering kiss that held the promise of a better future.

And as they stood there, surrounded by the warmth of their home and the quiet peace of their little family, Zhan finally allowed himself to believe that maybe, just maybe, they were going to be okay.

A Week Later

The news of Xiao Li Feng's arrest had spread like wildfire, and the Xiao family name was no longer something to be proud of.

The media had painted a picture of scandal and tragedy, but for Zhan and Yibo, the truth had finally come to light. And with it came a sense of closure, if only for now.
