I wake up as soon as the lights come on. I hear someone coming towards the bunk room, and I assume it's Bonzo. I am correct, so I stand at the foot of my bed, at attention.

Bonzo looks me over approvingly.

"Up early are we, Thompson?" Immediately, people start waking up and coming to attention.

"Yes, Commander."

"Everybody up!" He yells. By this point everybody is standing at the foot of their beds. "You know the schedule. Breakfast. Battle room. Classes. Lunch. Classes. Battle room. Dinner. Free time. I know you all know, this is just to help our new member out. Battle room, half an hour. Go." We immediately start moving.

Petra sits with me at breakfast. Day one, so far, so good.

Petra and I are the first to arrive. After everyone else gets here, I here someone call out, "Where's O'Reily?" I think it's one of the toon leaders.

"Reassigned," Bonzo replies. "A replacement will be here during free time."

"Yes sir."

"Alright let's get started!" Bonzo yells.

I decide to hang back and watch. I easily learn six maneuvers that will be useful, two that are flashy, and come up with three even better ones. The formations aren't really that hard to understand. I quickly grasp six.

As we're leaving to change and shower for class, Petra and the other toon leaders walk up to me.

"We saw you practicing. You really are as good as the commanders say," Petra says.

"Yeah, you should teach us those maneuvers you came up with, they look useful," says one.

"Sorry about Fly. He doesn't really get the concept of manners. I'm Dink. That's Fly. And this is Aiden. I assume you already know Petra." It's the tall, dark skinned boy from last night. To his right is a tan boy with almond shaped eyes that I assume is Fly. A short, stocky boy with brown hair, who must be Aiden, stands to Dink's left.

"It's nice to meet all of you."

"Try and hop in practice next time, we could use you." I decide that Fly's snarky comment is a good sign.

"I'll try."

"Good. We'll see you in class." This time, it's Aiden that talks.

"See ya," I say. I head off to the showers.
