After our brief meeting with Ender, I saw him quite a bit. He'd been awarded the rank of Admiral, and all of us were given decent salaries. The new hegemon, Peter Wiggin, of all people, had opened up the old formic planets for colonization. Ender told me about what Peter had done to him and his beloved sister, Valentine, when they were children.
I'd since come into contact with Valentine, who was wondering how Ender was doing. Smart girl. Ender's intelligence seemed to be matched evenly with that of his siblings. Val revealed that she was Demosthenes, and that Peter was Locke, both extremely influential political rivals.
A few months after the final battle I was looking at discourse over whether Ender should be allowed to come home. Val, who'd been previously arguing for Ender's return, had turned tables entirely, instead making stunning point after point as to why Ender couldn't return home. I was moved. I knew Ender wanted badly to go back to Earth, but every point Val made was valid.
A message popped up from one of Val's private personas.

I open a chat and write back, Very moving. Everything I ever thought has been altered. Life changing material.
Ha ha
But seriously, I don't know they'll let him home.
That's the plan.
An excellent plan. He won't be happy, but it'll work out. Good luck.
Two hands cover my eyes, blacking out the world.
"Guess who," a voice whispers.
"Bigfoot," I answer.
"Why him?" The Voice asks.
"Because your feet make too much noise to sneak up on me." Ender lets out an exasperated sigh.
"Why must you insult me so? My pride is wounded," he declares dramatically before releasing my face and collapsing into a chair next to me. I respond by grinning smugly at him and closing my chat.

Ender and I continued to spend time together, avoiding colonists at all costs. However, the time came when I had to go back to my parents, and Ender still wasn't allowed to come back. He hugged me tightly before I boarded my ship, and I promised to keep in touch with him during his voyage. He smiled sadly at me when he heard that.
"It'll hurt," he chokedly whispered.
"I know," I whispered back. "But it matters more to me that we keep in touch then the growing age gap will." And then he hugged me, almost as if he was afraid to let go.
I hugged him back just as tightly, and kept true to my word.
