Once we got to the venue we were sent to the back to run through our performance once more. We were in studio three. We were the first of the few acts, performing.
"Aspen," Rylee interrupted her solo. "What's up?" She shook her head.
"My voice is shot." Aspen's face fell, the way it did when she was ready to break.
"Come here." I told her. "Stop doubting yourself." I hugged her.
"Pen, we've done this hundreds of time, babe." Rylee comforted.
"Don't be nervous." Naomi shook her head.
"I know, I know. I'm freaking out." Aspen shook her hands out.
"They're just people." I told her. "Ry, go grab a few waters, we'll take five." I said.
"We don't have time." Aspen warned.
"We're making time." I shrugged.
"Matty says we can't take five." Rylee reported, walking in.
"Screw what Matty says." I took the water from Rylee and gave it to Aspen. "Take five." I told her. I looked over at Naomi. "Let's practice our riffs." I said. She nodded and faced me.
"It's you-our-" We both stopped.
"Try a little higher." I suggested. "You-our." I went into my falsetto.
"I like that." She nodded. We agreed.
"It's you-our beauty." We sang.
"You need to cut beauty off a little shorter." Rylee said.
"Yeah, I think so too." Mimi nodded. After a few minutes Aspen announced she was ready to try again. We ran through it once, and she was still a bit shaky with it. But the next few times she seemed good to go.
"Carpet time, ladies." Matty reported. We followed him around the front, where camera men were already spread along the ropes. Attendees were already rolling in from the line of chauffeurs.
"Good evening ladies, looking beautiful as ever." The first usher greeted us, helping us down the carpet, to the flashing. Immediately names were being thrown around, first I heard Sarah, then spotted, her. Sarah Jessica Parker. Next was Jennifer.
"Rylee Adkins." Aspen turned to look at the large crowd. We paused, locking arms, posing for a few shots.
"Ladies," I heard a low voice. I turned, smiling at the legend. Anna Wintour, Vogue Magazine publisher. "How great that you made it." She hugged Naomi, at the end of the line.
"We wouldn't miss it." Rylee said, sweetly.
"We're honored to be here." I hugged her.
"Oh, I'm pleased you can perform, you're an icon to Vogue." She kissed my cheeks.
We made it into the museum, without any mishaps. Aspen seemed freakishly nervous. I held her back, comforting her.
"Just breath, they're people like us." I whispered.
"Oh. My. Gosh. Look who it is!" We turned to see Karlie Kloss.
"Karlie!" Naomi hugged her first, then me.
"Hey, you look great, have you seen Cara?" I asked.
"Yes, she should be with Kendall, in the ball room." She told me.
"Pen, you're okay?" I asked. She nodded, letting me head off to find my friend. I got the usual, How have you been? You look fabulous. I can't wait to see you, usual greetings. I could see Kendall's long dark hair against her evergreen dress. I watched Cara's dancing beside her, as I made my way to them.
