Celine

The next morning I let Harry sleep in and took the old car- which was actually given to Ronnie- to my appointment.

"Hi, I have an appointment with Dr. Beaufort." I told the young girl at the desk.

"Oh okay, what's your name?" She asked.

"Celine Reid." I answered, looking around the counter at the various pamphlets. She picked the phone up and gave me a smile.

"Hey Dad, your appointment's here. Yes, you're right she is in my iPod." She grinned at me, rolling her eyes. "Okay." She sat the phone down. "Sorry about that he's super old fashioned."

"No problem, I love old fashion." I nodded.

"I'll have Abby escort you back to the room." She said, standing to walk through the back.

"Celine." She appeared, she was the same nurse from last time. I had to wait a while for the doctor but when he came back I got to show him all my stats.

"Nothing is changing." I said, watching him look over the folder.

"In order for things to change you've gotta change." He quoted somebody. "You need to get your BMI up, and that is a personal responsibility-"

"I've increased my caloric intake and been on a resistance training regimen for months!" I huffed. His eyebrows lifted and he sighed.

"Okay, I understand this must be very difficult for you. I feel that increasing your intake right now would be pushing it. I think if we try adding a alkylating chemical substance to the treatment then it can actually find the cell's causing your illness and disable its reproduction and eventually fight them off." He spoke.

"Okay, why wasn't this in the original treatment?" I asked, watching his scroll over his computer.

He released a sigh and slid across the floor in his chair.

"The simple answer is because you're 21." He nodded. I furrowed my eyebrows wondering what my age had to do with my treatment. "The chemicals we would be adding are Chemotherapy chemicals."

My lips parted and my eyes dropped.

"Chemotherapy?" The word fell out of my mouth like it was a sin.

"That's why." He nodded.

Plenty of questions were already clouding my head so I just sufficed for, "Would this work?"

"It has the same success rate as the original treatment but it would work a hell of a lot faster." He nodded.

"But I'd get all the side effects and stuff?" I shook my head, staring at my lap.

"No," He answered quickly. "The agents we'd be adding have certain side effects but the norm like hair loss, blood, and nervous system effects wouldn't be a problem." He assured.

"What would you be adding?" I asked.

"Altretamine, Carboplatin, and Cisplatin, these three chemicals can find the bad cells and get rid of them." He answered me.

"Okay, how soon can we do it?" I cleared my throat.

"Today, but we need to go over some paperwork first and maybe consult your old physician." He nodded.

I agreed. We talked to Mel about it who seemed to think there would be no harm in at least trying it.

The treatment was practically the same as the original one but I actually fell asleep during it. When it was over I was still dizzy and very fatigued. I had made it out to the car but knew there was no way I'd be able to get home without crashing.

After trying to call Harry a few times and getting his voicemail, I tried Liana.

"Hey," She answered.

"Hey Liana." I opened my eyes. "Are you busy?"

"Celine, are you drunk?" She questioned.

"What?" I snapped my head up, trying to shake my head. "No, I just got out of my treatment."

"Oh, I'm sorry. What's up?"

"I don't think I can drive home." I said, looking out the window, feeling my eyes get heavier by the second.

"Oh, okay. I'll have Mom drop me off with you. Her and Nana are going shopping." She said.

"Okay, I'm at the clinic, I'm sure you'll see me." I closed my eyes, and opened the door.

It took me a while just to get my legs out of the door. I was holding onto the hood of the car when my knees locked. I sighed, leaning against the car.

Harry

"She's not answering." I said, calling her again.

"She probably just fell asleep, she sounded really tired on the phone." Liana said from beside me. I woke up right before Maya, Nana, and Liana left and saw that Celine had called so I decided to go with them, but now she wasn't answering.

"I wish she would've woke me up. I wouldn't have let her go alone." I shook my head, watching Maya drive. When we pulled into the clinic's parking lot I couldn't see her in the car.

"Why is my granddaughter on the ground?" Nana asked, looking at Maya. "When you moved away-"

I didn't stay to listen to her scold her daughter. I hopped out, leaving the door open and walked around the front of the car to see her sitting against the front of the car.

"Celine." I said, crouching beside her. I lifted my hand to push her hair back. Her eyes were closed but when I touched her they popped open.

"Harry?" She furrowed her eyebrows. "I thought Liana was coming."

"She's here. Love, why are you on the ground?" I asked, grabbing her hands to help her up.

"I-" She shook her head. "I just fell asleep. I couldn't get around the car." She sighed.

"What the hell did they do to you?" I breathed, grabbing around her back to lift her. "She's okay, she's just tired." I called, to Maya. She nodded, although still obviously concerned and backed out. I sat in the back with her and let Liana drive.

"Her last treatment didn't affect her like this." Liana said.

"I know." I agreed, rubbing my fingers against her scalp, through her hair. I wanted to tell her about Celine and I's conversation yesterday, and that she may have found another way to get better but I didn't feel comfortable; Celine should talk to her family about that.
