Your shift at the local coffee shop is almost over as you start to pack up your things. You need a new job. One with better pay, workable hours and some kind of motivation to keep you wanting to wake up in the morning.
You have an interview at Stark Industries for an internship at 3pm and your shift ends at two. Just enough time to refresh back home.
-
As you unlock the door to your apartment you throw your duffle bag onto the floor and take off your shirt. Damn, that workout paid good. After a shower and a snack you check the clock, 2:45pm. I'll get there in time.
-
No one was in the lobby of the Stark tower except the receptionist and a security guard walking towards you.
"Excuse me sir, we're currently at closing hours."
"Oh, um, well I have an interview with Pepper Potts at 3pm, 28th of June and unless I'm mistaken that is right now." He goes from concerned to pleasured in his expression.
"My deepest apologies Mr..?"
"Frost, Daniel Frost."
"Nice to meet you Mister Frost. I'm Happy, Head of Security. Miss Potts will be impressed that you're on time. Right this way." He flashes a warm smile before walking towards a glass elevator. You follow him inside and stand in awkward silence as the elevator makes it's way up to the 11th floor.
The doors open and you are greeted by many office and conference room doors lined along a large corridor. Happy leads you to the very last door straight ahead of you. He knocks on the wooden frame before turning the handle.
"Miss Potts? Your 3 o'clock is here." The office area is neat and tidy with a magnificent view of the city behind a desk where an auburnish blonde haired lady looks up.
"Ah yes, come in. Please, take a seat." You nod politely and walk into the room, Happy closing the door behind you.
"It's a wonderful place you have here, Miss Potts." You look around in awe before taking a seat opposite your interviewer.
"Please, just call me Pepper. So you want to become an intern?" She smiles genuinely at you.
Within the next 45 minutes you answered question after question but she made them feel more friendly and less strict work policy blah blah stuff. You could say that after that you became best friends! But you wouldn't push it, just in case.
"Well Daniel I think it's safe to say that you got the job."
"For real? No come backs or don't call us we'll call you?" She takes off her glasses and places them on the table in front of her.
"Nope. Out of all the interviews this week you are the only male, the only one not to ask 'where's Tony?' and in my opinion you've been the most honest person yet." A smile slowly forms on your face as you think about the many ways to quit you old job.
"Wow, it's only 4 o'clock. Are you doing anything this afternoon Dan?"
"Nothing at all." Her smile broadens a little.
"Then may I have the honour of giving you a tour of the tower and a meeting with the man himself?" You nod your head vigorously as Pepper giggles.
You've never seen the tower before and you love the technology that Tony makes. You excelled in engineering at high school and you were going to continue into university but you didn't have the money.
The tour was magical. Especially the weapons vault and although you didn't touch anything you still had an idea of how to work each one with a glance. For the last part of the tour Pepper brought you back up the elevator, all the way to the penthouse. The doors opened and she walked straight over to a bar at the back of the room.
The view was spectacular, looking over the whole city as the sun goes down behind it.
"Would you like anything?"
"Uh, sure. If you don't mind that is." You lean on the bar. Lucky you didn't drive down.
"No it's okay. What would you like?" She pours white wine for herself. You notice a bottle behind her and you smile, your favourite.
"Scotch, please." She pulls out two glasses and pours your favourite beverage into both.
"Looks like you and Tony already have something in common." She hands you the glass and you follow her across the room and down stairs.
"Tony!" Pepper has to shout over the loud screeches of two pieces of metal being welded together.
A man wearing a white singlet with dirt stains and black combat pants stops welding and looks over his shoulder. Putting down his tool belt and lifting off his welders mask, he reveals a clean cut beard and moustache that suits him way too much. His black hair is thick and silky and his arc reactor glows bright blue as he walks over to you both, wiping his hands on a rag.
"Hey Pepper, who's this?" He nods at you with his head.
"Tony this is Daniel Frost, Dan this is Tony Stark."
"The man of many mysteries." You smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." He shakes your hand and takes the scotch from Pepper.
"Dan will be our new intern doing papers for me and, whatever, for you. So play nice boys." Tony smirks and holds out his glass to you.
"Congratulations. Your much of a well appreciated change from the previous female interns I have to say." All three of you clink glasses and sip your drinks. "Is that a British accent I detect?"
"London. Moved here ten years ago." Tony winks at you before setting down his glass and walking back to his work.
"Does he do that to everyone?" You down the rest of your scotch.
"Nope, only to people he likes." You smile slightly, mostly to yourself. I think I'm gonna like this job.
