Chapter 2
When I arrived home, I put some beans in the microwave and put two slices of bread in the toaster. I poured a glass of orange juice and gulped half of it down. The toast popped up. I spread on a thick layer of butter and cut them in half. I put them on a plate and took the beans out of the microwave. I put them on top, and took it through to the living room. I put the TV on and put on a rerun of Friends. It was something to do, I suppose.
After I'd finished, I washed my plate and put it out to dry. I walked up to my room and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I had a message from Ryan:
Hey, how are you?
Nb mate, got summet to ask you...
What's up??
I've got a secret admirer, any idea who it is?
There was quite a long pause before my phone bleeped again:
It's me
I was confused. What does he mean, it's me? He's what? I text him back:
What do you mean?
Another pause:
I'm your secret admirer. Well not so secret anymore
I was shocked. Ryan? We'd been friends for years, best friends in fact. I never imagined he fancied
me, and I'd never thought of him as more than a friend. I just sat still for a few moments, wondering how I didn't know how he felt. I sent him a message:
So what happens now?
He text back almost immediately:
Will you go out with me Kayleigh? And if it's too awkward for you, we can still be just friends. Please?
Ok
I didn't know what else to say. He said we could still be friends, but could we really? I mean, best friends? Would that work? Well, there was only one way to find out...
