So, theory is, Anna and Elsa's Parents were going to visit their cousin, Rapunzel's wedding. She is their cousin because her mom and their dad are brother and sister.
As you know, their ship sank and they died. But, they didn't die. They washed up on shore of a tropical island, where they gave birth to a son, Tarzan, and were killed by a wildcat.
Now your asking, where does Ariel fit in all of this? Well, the ship she shows Flounder at the beginning of the movie is the king and queen of Arendelle's ship.
