Fatima's POV
It felt like time was flying and standing still all at once. One minute, I was still trying to wrap my head around being pregnant — now we were sitting in the OB's office, waiting for our first appointment, about to hear our baby's heartbeat.
And of course... Zac was sitting next to me, hand resting on my thigh, grinning like he couldn't be more proud.
We weren't married yet — life had been too hectic, and every time we thought we'd get down to that courthouse, something came up. But Zac? He acted like we were. Telling everybody I was his wife — family, friends, random people — like it was already written in stone.
Hell, he almost corrected me today when I checked in.
"Fatima Wilson," I'd told the receptionist, smiling nervously.
And right next to me, I felt Zac shift — heard him mutter under his breath, "Taylor..." like it physically pained him to hear me say anything else.
I shot him a quick look, biting back a laugh. "Zac."
He smirked, shrugged like he wasn't the one being ridiculous. "What? Just practicing. It's gon' be official soon anyway."
I shook my head but truthfully? That little moment stayed with me — because deep down, it made me feel good knowing he really saw me as his wife already.
Still, as excited as I was, I couldn't lie — my nerves were all over the place. I'd been helping raise Kolby, loving that little girl like she was my own, but this? This was my first time walking through motherhood. My first baby.
Zac leaned over, noticing how quiet I got. "You good, baby?"
I nodded, forcing a small smile. "Yeah... just nervous. This all feels... real now."
He kissed my temple. "We're gonna be fine. You already mama to Peanut. You just gettin' your official badge now."
Before I could respond, the nurse popped out. "Fatima?"
Zac stood up faster than me, reaching for my hand. "Let's go, Mrs. Taylor."
I laughed, letting him pull me toward the room. "Wilson, Zac."
He grinned. "For now."
Once we were settled in, the nurse prepped the monitor, smiling. "Ready to hear baby's heartbeat?"
I nodded quickly, my stomach flipping. "Yeah."
Zac grabbed my hand, squeezing it as the nurse placed the doppler on my belly. It was quiet... and then — there it was.
The steady, fast little thump filled the room, and my breath caught.
Zac let out a shaky laugh, eyes glued to the monitor. "Damn... that's ours?"
I wiped a tear that slipped down. "Yeah... that's our baby."
Zac leaned over, kissed my forehead, voice low. "We really doing this, huh?"
I nodded, laughing through the tears. "Yeah... we really are."
The sound of that little heartbeat stayed with me — steady, strong, ours.
I couldn't stop staring at the screen, watching that tiny flicker of life. As scared as I was walking in here, hearing that sound? It made everything feel real... and for the first time, right.
The nurse smiled warmly, typing a few things into the computer. "So based on your last period and baby's measurements, you're right at ten weeks today." She glanced over at me and Zac. "Your official due date is October 12th."
