Age- 10&0

10 years old Shubman was unaware of the storm entering his life. He didn't notice the entry, and how will he? Because the storm was in the form of a cute, hyperactive bundle of joy.

Shubman vividly remembered that night. He was having dinner with his family when they heard the doorbell. Confused, his parents stood up to answer the door. Who could be at this hour?

Mr.Gill, Shubman's father, opened the door to an anxious-looking Mr.Kishan, their next-door neighbor. Mr.Kishan was standing there with his son Rajiv.

"Aree Prashant bhaisahab, kya hua? Aur Sumitra kaha hai? Wo thik hai? Itni raat ko aap yaha? Sab thik toh hai na bhaisahab?", Mrs.Gill bombarded her questions without giving Mr.Kishan a chance to speak.
[Prashant Bhaisahab, what happened? And where is Sumitra? Is she alright? You are here so late at night? Is everything alright Bhaisahab?]

"Kanak ji, unhe bolne toh dijiye aap", Mr.Gill teasingly said. Mrs.Gill sheepishly smiled and then they both turned to Mr.Kishan.
[Kanak ji, please let him speak]

By that time Shubman and his elder sister, Savreen, also joined their parents at the door.

"Sumitra ka labor pain suru ho gaya hai. Hum aur maa usko hospital leke jaa rahe hai. Aap bas aaj raat Rajiv ka dhyan rakh lijiyega?", Mr.Kishan informed them.
[Sumitra's labour pains have started. Mom and I are taking her to the hospital. Can you just take care of Rajiv tonight?]

Lakhvir Gill assured Mr.Kishan, "Ye puchne ki baat nahi hai Prashant. Tum Rajiv ki chinta mat karo aur jaldi jao. Ya phir mai drive karke tumlog ko le jaun?"
[This is not a question to ask Prashant. You don't worry about Rajiv and go quickly. Or should I drive you all there?]

"Nahi Lakhvir hum chale jaayenge", Mr.Kishan politely replied and then practically ran towards his house.
[No Lakhvir, we will go]

The next morning they all went to the hospital where Mrs.Kishan was resting in a room and her baby was in the bassinet beside her bed. Rajiv ran to his parents and grandmother and hugged them. The Gill couple moved towards the Kishans and congratulated them.

The children's attention immediately went to the baby and the three, Rajiv, Savreen and Shubman surrounded the bassinet.

"Papa, I want to hold my brother", Rajiv looked at his father who smiled at him and came to them.

Mr.Kishan carefully held the baby and sat on the visitor's chair. Rajiv came and lightly touched his brother's cheek. Savreen cooed over the baby. Shubman lightly touched the baby's finger.

"So soft...just like cotton candy", Shubman whispered. Suddenly the baby holds his forefinger. Shubman's eyes widen and he practically squealed, "Mumma, Papa, dekho! The baby likes me!!!"
[Mumma, Papa, look!]

The elders fondly chuckled and agreed with him. Later Rajiv named his brother Ishan, Ishan Kishan. Little did anyone know, that day Ishan didn't hold Shubman's finger for mere minutes, but for a lifetime.

Age- 13&3

Ishan was practically attached to Shubman at hips. Wherever Shubman goes, Ishan will always be there, accept school. Shubman didn't even realize when Ishan became such an important part of his life. It's like Ishan just barged in there like he owns it, which maybe he technically does. Most of the time Ishan eats and sleeps at the Gills only. Shubman has lost count of how many times he had seen Ishan taking his afternoon nap in his room when he comes back from school.
