"ISHAN"
"Aaya maa", said Ishan while going downstairs to the living room where his parents were.
"Kya hua maa?"
"Beta mujhe aur tere Papa ko tujhse kuch baat karni hai", Suchitra Kishan, Ishan's mother, said and pats the sofa indicating him to sit on it.
Ishan sits on the sofa beside his mother. His father, Pranav Kishan, was sitting on his mother's other side and his elder sister was sitting on the single sofa in front of them.
"Ishan", his father started, "we called you to tell you an important thing. Do you remember Lakhwinder Gill? My very good friend and colleague at Delhi High Court."
Ishan knows Lakhwinder Gill. He has met him when a few times he went to his father's office at the High Court. Mr.Gill is a very good man and an equally talented lawyer just like his father.
Ishan nodded.
Pranav Kishan continued, "Actually yesterday he came with a proposal. Proposal of marriage... his son Shubman's and yours."
To say Ishan was shocked would be an understatement. He had just graduated a week ago and a proposal has already come! And what about his elder sister? Shouldn't she get married first...Truth to be told, he don't have any problem with the proposal or with Shubman. It's just that it's too early.
Ishan has met Shubman quite a few times. Ishan, his sister and Shubman were in same college. When Ishan joined the college his sister and Shubman were in the 3rd(final) year. Shubman, as Ishan remembered, was a cool but kind person. They had few chats because both were in college cricket team with Shubman being the captain and also they had met in few of their fathers official party.
"We know Ishan that you are just 21 and it's too early but we think it's a good proposal. Lakhwinder ji toh khud saamne se ye rishta le kar aaye. Aur sach kahun toh mai jitni baar bhi mila hun Shubman se wo bahut acha aur sidha ladka laga hai. Usne itni kam umar me hi apni multi-national company suru kar di bina apne papa ke madad ke. Unhone ye saaf keh diya hai ki tujhe jo karna hai Ishan wo tu kar sakta hai kyuki ye teri life hai aur teri life ka decision lene ka hak sirf tujhe hai", said Mr.Kishan smilingly.
"Papa, maa agar aaplog ko ye rishta sahi lag raha hai toh mujhe koi dikkat nahi hai", Ishan said, ever the obedient son.
Ishan's parents became really happy with his decision. Mr.Kishan immediately called to inform Mr.Gill about the good news. But someone present there was not happy at all. Ishan's sister Ishika was seething in jealousy. She always has a crush (obsession) on Shubman. From a very young age she started feeling jealous of Ishan because of his good grades in academic as well as in extra curriculum activities. He was everyone's 'golden boy'. When she saw Shubman in their college for the first time, she developed crush on him at that instant only. But now she has became obsessed with him. No, she won't let Ishan take Shubman from her!
At night Ishan was in his room preparing for sleep. As he just emerged from his bathroom he saw Ishika barging in his room and came in front of him. She was seething, her eyes were maniac. Ishika slapped Ishan very hard.
"How dare you Ishan?", said Ishika angrily.
Ishan didn't know what just happened. His sister slapped him out of nowhere. He turned towards his sister with tearful eyes. Before he could utter a word Ishika started lashing.
"Bachpan se lekar aaj tak tujhe hamesha sab kuch best mila par mera kya?!! Tu toh hamesha 'golden boy' raha na, har chiz me best...lekin ab nahi. Jabse maine pehli baar Shubman ko dekha tha tab se pyaar karne lagi thi. Tumne mujhe hamesha mera har kuch cheena hai par ab Shubman nahi. Isliye tu kal subah Maa Papa ke paas jayega aur ye rishta cancel karega, samjha!"
Ishan couldn't believe what he was hearing. He just saw obsession for Shubman in his sister's eyes. He couldn't utter a word so he just nodded his head.
"Good", Ishika said while smirking.
The next morning Ishan informed his parents that he don't want to marry Shubman. His parents were shocked because yesterday only he agreed for this arrangement now what changed in one night.
"Ishan kya hua hai? Humne tumhare haan ki baat Gill ji ko bata di aur unlogo ne shaadi ki tyaariyan bhi suru kar di. Ab tum mana kar rahe ho. Nahi hum unhe kis muh se mana karenge. Humse ye nahi hoga."
"Par Papa-"
"Papa mujhe lagta hai hame Ishan ko force nahi karna chahiye agar uska mann nahi hai toh. Aur rahi baat Gill uncle ko mana karne ki toh... mai Shubman se shaadi karne ko tyaar hun", said Ishika sweetly. Only Ishan knows how sweet she is!
"What? Ye tum kya keh rahi ho Ishika?", Suchitra Kishan was really astonished.
"Haan maa mai janti hu ki ye ajeeb hai par apne bhai ke liye aur aap log ke reputation ke liye mai ye karne ko tyaar hun."
