Klaus paced back and forth in his private study, a glint of excitement in his eyes. He had known for centuries that his life would never be complete without Caroline. Now, after everything they'd been through, after the bond they had formed, it was time to make her his forever. He would propose. It was the only thing that felt right.
Elijah stood by the door, watching his brother with a knowing look. He had been by Klaus's side through so much, but this... this was different. Klaus was determined, and that alone made it worth all the trouble it would take to make this moment perfect.
"What's the plan, Klaus?" Elijah asked, his tone teasing yet with a trace of concern. He had seen Klaus in many states, but never this... soft. He had never known Klaus to seek happiness with another the way he did with Caroline.
Klaus stopped pacing and turned to face Elijah. "You and I will prepare the room. We'll set up the candles, arrange the flowers... make it romantic," Klaus said, his voice low and filled with anticipation. "But there's a catch."
Elijah raised an eyebrow. "A catch?"
"I need someone to distract her," Klaus continued. "She can hear a pin drop, and with her enhanced vampire senses, she'd be able to hear us setting everything up." He paused, eyes narrowing. "That's where Rebekah comes in."
"Rebekah?" Elijah repeated, chuckling. "Of course. She and Caroline have become friends. I suppose she's the only one who can keep her occupied."
Klaus nodded. "Exactly. I'll text her when we're done setting things up, and she can take Caroline out of the compound. That way, we can do this without her suspecting a thing."
Elijah smiled slightly. "You've thought this through. Very well, I'll go speak with her."
The two brothers made their way to find Rebekah. As they entered the grand hall, they were surprised to see her standing there, apparently not aware they were watching her.
"Klaus, Elijah," Rebekah greeted them with a raised eyebrow. "What brings you here?"
Klaus wasted no time, explaining his plan to propose to Caroline, and how he needed Rebekah's help to distract her while they set everything up. Rebekah tilted her head, eyeing Klaus curiously.
"And why me?" she asked, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "Why can't you ask one of your other friends, or one of your many admirers?"
"Because you and Caroline are close now," Klaus said, his voice serious. "You're her friend, and she'll listen to you. Please, Rebekah. You're the only one who can keep her distracted long enough for us to set everything up. It's important."
Rebekah considered this for a moment before agreeing. "Fine. But this better be as perfect as you say it is, Klaus. I'll take her for a walk and keep her busy. But you better make it count."
Klaus grinned. "I promise it will."
With the plan set, the group returned to the compound. Rebekah wasted no time in finding Caroline, who was sitting in the living room, her gaze distant as she thought about everything that had transpired recently.
Rebekah approached her with a smile. "Caroline," she said warmly, "How about a walk? You've been cooped up in here for days. Fresh air might do you some good."
Caroline looked up, a smile crossing her face as she stood. "Sure, why not?" The two women left the compound and began walking around the grounds, chatting about anything
