*Reese's P.O.V.*
I was sitting in a chair against the wall at the end of the room. Her parents were sitting in chairs on the right side of Alli's bed. When they had returned from the cafeteria I gave up my seat so that they could sit close to her.
"Any news about Allison?" Alli's mom asked me anxiously.
"She, woke up and talked to me for a little bit," I replied.
"Really? What did she say?" Her father asked.
Immediately my mind circled back to how she said she loved me all this time and how I loved her just as much. "She said she couldn't really remember what happened. Then she got tired again so I told her to sleep." I decided that was a safe enough topic.
Her mom smiled, but her dad had a thoughtful look on his face. "I don't mean to offend you, but why are you still here? Is there something going on between you and Allison?" He said with genuine curiosity in his voice.
I looked around the room, searching for words when I noticed Alli open her eyes and quickly close them. I could tell she was trying to listen in on the conversation. She would never make a good actress. And suddenly, the words formed in my head and I spoke. "I love your daughter, and I would die if anything ever happened to her. That's why, when I found out that...idiot was hurting her, I gave him what he deserved and I don't think he'll forget it anytime soon." I said; I could feel myself growing angrier at that asshole Clayton by the second.
"I see; thank you for what you did, but are you and Allison...?" Her dad trailed off.
"Dating? Yes, I guess I'm her boyfriend, and I promise to take care of her. I wouldn't dare hurt her; she's the only thing I have to live for." I said simply.
"Oh, how sweet; I just can't understand how she means the most to you. I mean, what about your family, don't you have them?" Her mom asked curiously.
This question didn't really surprise me; I've been through it all before. "Sadly, no, my parents and I, we were never close. They gave up on me a long time ago. As far as I know, I'm just another disappointment to them."
"I-I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I just...I..." Her mom stuttered.
"No worries, I don't care what they think anymore. I stopped caring when they did." I reassured her mom.
"...I see...." Her mom said thoughtfully, trailing off.
"I think Alli's waking up," I said, returning the smile she flashed me as soon as she opened her eyes. "How are you feeling?" I asked her.
"I feel weird... drugged is a good way to describe it. What about you?" Alli asked me.
"I'm okay, I guess." I answered.
She turned to her parents, "What have you guys been up to?" She asked them.
"We were waiting for you to wake up sweetheart," Her mom told her.
"What did I miss?" She asked innocently.
I chuckled, "Oh, you know, just you talking in your sleep...." I smiled at her.
I watched as her jaw dropped and she started to blush. Her parents were slightly confused; they weren't around when she was sleep talking. Once she regained herself, she asked "What did I say?"
"Well talk about that later," I said. "At least you only talked when your parents were away," I smiled again as she started to blush again, God she looked so cute when she blushed.
"What time is it?" she asked. I could tell it was an attempt to change the subject.
"A little after eleven p.m.," her father said checking his watch.
"I should really get home," I said realizing I would have hell to pay when I got home to my parents. I had stayed at the hospital for days and they didn't know where I was. But then again, they didn't care; they knew I'd be home some time.
As I went over to say goodbye to Alli, I realized I had no way to get home. Maybe I'd figure it out later, but I really didn't know what I was going to do about it. I kissed Alli on the cheek and I whispered in her ear "You look so beautiful when you're sleeping, almost as beautiful as when you're awake. Sleep well, I'll come to see you when I can, and I love you."
"I love you too," she whispered, a small smile on her lips. I nodded to her parents and as I went to leave I heard Alli call me back. "Reese?"
"Yeah?" I said, walking back to the side of her bed.
"How are you getting home if you don't have a car here; I mean, you came to the hospital with me. Is someone coming to get you?"
"I, uh...I hadn't thought that far yet...." I admitted.
"I could drop you off, if you'd like." Her dad offered before she could reply.
"Uh, sure. Thanks. That would be great." I told him.
"Then let's go," he said leading the way. I followed him through the hospital and to the parking lot, the whole time I kept wondering how on earth I got to call her mine.
