"Honey? Wake up!" I heard mom's soft voice yell in desperation.
I stood up and shook my head. Everything was spinnimg. I made out a red liquid on the bathroom floor. I groaned. My head was killing me. "Get the ambulance!" Mom shrieked to dad. "How many fingers am I holding up?!" Mom asked. She held up some fingers. I tilted my head. "Two?" My vision was still blurry. Mom hugged me. "No, but you'll get better. The doctors will fix you. You'll be fine." It sounded as if she was trying to persuade herself. The ambulance came and put me on a stretcher and loaded me into the van. Mom stayed with me the entire time, encouraging me to keep awake and telling me how she had to go to the hospital too when she was little. I giggled at times and it hurt but I didn't care, at least I had my mom long the way.
I had asked a couple of times what had happened but mom refused, so I let it go. When we got to the hospital, I really don't know what the doctors did. I couldn't remember any of it. I just remember muffled cries from my mom.
"Skylar. Dear, you got a, well, concussion and it's really bad and," mom had said between cries, "and dad you'll need surgery because you chipped a bone. I don't know how falling on the bathroom floor could've caused this much damage." Mom cried again. I tried to sit up from the hospital bed but it hurt and everything blurred so I sat back down. Mom patted my shoulder. "I'll see you tomorrow." She said and smiled. She leaned down and kissed my forehead. "Bye." I said. Mom walked away and out of the red curtains that made my "room".
It was the day. The day of the surgery. I have to admit, I almost peed my pants. I was sweaty and regretting ever going to the bathroom. Mom and dad were here and mom was clutching my hand. A nurse came in and wheeled me to the surgery room. They put a needle with liquid in it into me, which made me sleepy. I closed my eyes and thought of everything happy in life. But darkness plagued my mind, and a crying girl in the corner was all I saw.
I woke up in my hospital bed with a throbbing headache. Mom was by my side with dad talking to the doctor. "We get to bring you home tomorrow." Mom said. I almost cried. That's all I wanted to do right now. Go home.
When we were home I felt ready for a nap. "Huh, thats weird mom, the light in the kitchens on." I said in confusion. Mom smiled. I opened the door and all my relatives and friends popped up from chairs, tables and from behind the piano. "Welcome back Skylar!" My friend, Janeane wooped. I almost cried. Dad led me to the couch and Mom set me on it gently. "Mom, I'm not helpless I can sit on the couch by myself." I said. Mom chuckled. "I know but my baby seems so." I gave mom the warning look. "Have fun with your friends Sky." Dad patted my back. I smiled at him.
As soon as the adults went all my friends crowded around me. "Did it hurt?" "Did you cry?" "How did you chip your bone?"
Questions hurtled at me and I sat, baffled. I stopped everyone with a wave of desperation. "It did hurt, I cried, and I fell on the bathroom floor.!" I said, out of breath. Everyone's mouths gaped open and they stood with awe. I know I shouldn't have felt pride flow through me for chipping a bone, but my chest puffed out automatically. My friend, Anneliese came up to me, leaned forward to whisper in my ear and quietly said, "I know your not telling the entire truth."
I stopped dead. My blood went cold and my chest melted down. How did she know. Anneliese would never say that. Or maybe, she wasn't Anneliese. Then I caught a glimpse of blood on Anneliese's hand. True Anneliese came back and she was shaking. "We're already dead Skylar. She's coming." She whispered.
Then Anneliese screamed.
