I realize that I have "forgotten" to sleep for the fifth night in a row when my alarm clock rings throughout my room at quarter until six in the morning. Immediately, I stand up and head down stairs to make my morning coffee. When the coffee is brewing and the coffee pot is slowly filling, I make my way to my room. I push open my bed room door as far as it can go before the door hits the large bookshelves which reach up my poster filled walls. I trip on what was supposed to be last nights homework while I walk to my closet. Realizing I did not complete my assignment, I shove it into my black book bag with tears lining the sides and pins with all the bands I listen to pinned on the outside pocket. The outfit I had planned to wear is laying in front of my closet door. I pulled the black sweatshirt on over my Black Veil Brides tee shirt. On my way down stairs, I grab my black vans shoes. My mother is awake and roaming the kitchen trying to find her keys when I go to get my cup of coffee so I decide to go into my bathroom and go brush my hair and teeth waiting for her to leave the kitchen. Eventually I hear her footsteps lead down the hall and the front door open and close. I make a quick exit out of my bathroom. Grabbing my tall coffee thermos, I notice a note on the kitchen table.
Alex,
Remember that I have just left for my business meeting in Connecticut today. I will not be home for a week. Breland won't be home until I am home. She is staying with Lindsey for the week. Please try to take care of yourself. If you need anything, Mrs.Fiona will be right next door. I'm trusting you to be able to take care of yourself for this week. After all, you are 18 now and you are in your last year of high school. Please call me every once and a while so I know you are okay. I love you. I will see you soon.
-Mom
Throwing the note back down onto the table, I walk over the coffee pot, pour myself some coffee, run back upstairs and grab my book bag and my ear buds. Just as I'm closing the front door to my house, Jess meows loudly as if she is trying to get me to say goodbye to her.
"Bye Jess. See you in a little bit. I'm just going to school" I say while reaching over to pat her head.
I close and lock the front door behind me. I start walking to school while listening to Bring Me The Horizons newest song on the highest volume. School is a twenty minute walk and starts in fifteen minutes. I end up running and walking to school with five minutes to spare once I arrive. I couldn't be late again considering I have been late seventeen other times this year. Once I walk into the school building I immediately have the feeling of anxiety go through me. I soon become cautious of who I look at, what I say, and the way I act. I make my way to my locker without saying a word to anyone (which is easy when you have no one to talk to). I enter the combination into my locker while people walk past me talking and laughing. 29,25,18. My locker won't open. 29,25,18. I can not get it open. I try once again and the bell rings right when I open it. Once I rush to grab my books, I have to run to class which is in room 427 on the second level.
I open the door and the bell rings immediately after. Everyone is rushing to their seats while I just slide into the seat in the very back of the room but closest to the door.
"Good morning class. Are you all ready for a pop quiz?"
Groans fill the room and it suddenly becomes very loud.
"Settle down. If you did last nights homework, you should do just fine."
Shit. Of course I didn't do one nights homework and this happens. Anyway, I end up failing because I knew the answer to only one question. The bell for the next class rings and as people get up to go, Mr.Stewart calls out "The bell does not dismiss you. I dismiss you. You may now leave. Except Alex."
Great... I walk up to Mr.Stewarts desk to see that as I thought, he did not seem very happy.
"Alex, what's happening? Your grades are dropping. You didn't do your homework. You stopped talking to everyone. Is everything okay?"
"Yes. I'm fine."
"Okay. Just please do better in my class. It's your senior year. You don't want to drop your grades even more than they have dropped. You are dismissed."
I turn sharply and walk to the back of the classroom to the door. Mr.Stewart begins to say something but I don't look back. I just keep walking. What is the point in listening to him. Might as well try to blend in with the crowds of people who are heading to heir next class because I know I will be seen by Jessica. Might as well try to hide from her. Maybe I can get away without her hurting me today. I doubt it.
