"Audrey! What happened? Why are you limping?" Melanie rushed over to me with a worried expression. Her Australian accent never fails to soothe me.
"Uhhh I fell on the ice skating rank," I quickly made up an excuse.
She frown. "Are you sure you can work today?"
I shrug. "Maybe I can just make the drinks behind the counter."
She nods in agreement. "Alright, it's better for you to not walk around so much."
Melanie goes back to receiving orders from customers and giving me the papers.
"Black coffee, latte with 4 shots, peppermint hot chocolate," I read, turning on the coffee machine.
My shift was over at 9 PM. "Want a ride?" Melanie smiles.
I nod. "Yeah sure, I was going to call my brother to pick me up."
"So... what happened this week?" She ask when she started the engine.
"What do you mean?"
She raised an eyebrow at me. "Hmmmm, let's see. You didn't show up to work 2 days in a row, and then you come in late today. And I see that bandage on your leg, don't think I can't see it with that short äss skirt. I also notice you only using 1 hand today to make drinks, did you get in a fight with someone or something?"
I sigh. How do she always notice these little things?
"I- it's difficult to explain. And it's something I can't tell you," I stutter.
She glares at me. "You won't even tell your best friend?"
"I c-can't."
She sighs. "Fine. But just, be careful, please."
"I will."
"No, you have to promise me," she said. "I know how reckless you are."
I look away. "I don't know if I can," I said, barely a whisper.
"Then you better promise me to do your best."
I look back at her and smirk. "That, I definitely can keep."
She pulls up to my house and let me out. "See you tomorrow!" She laughs.
"Bye Mel," I return the smile.
The first thing I do is plop down on the couch. Ugh, I feel so sore.
I finally decide to get up and remove the jacket. For some reason, I find the urge to sniff it. It smells boyish and there's a hint of cologne. I can definitely tell it's worn material. Maybe it's his, I smile at the thought.
No Audrey, stop! Why are you smiling? He's your enemy!
I quickly toss the piece of clothing to the side and fetch out the flash drive. It turns out my brother saved it under the seat because he didn't have enough time to give it to Master Cross.
I plug it in my laptop and wait for it to load, silently panicking about what I will see.
There were four folders.
They were labeled 'Members', 'Bank', 'Tasks', and 'TC'.
I first click on the Members folder. 519 individual files showed up, in order of rank.
