After breakfast that morning I couldn't get Jordan soft gentle kiss out of my head. I felt fuzzy and had a warm feeling in the middle of my stomach. My phone started ringing catching me off guard and snapping me out of my daze. quickly I jumped off my bed and snatched it up from my dresser. It was our neighbor across the street Phoebe.
"Hello?"
"Hi Danny! I'm sorry I haven't called earlier but I didn't want to pressure you anymore. I heard that you were going back to Colorado and I was going to tell you that I have your grandparents dog Shiloh with me and well now she's your dog. I can bring her over right now if its a good time?"
"Hi Phoebe. That's fine. I'm going to be driving back this afternoon and so its probably best if I get her stuff together as well. Thank you."
"Alright Dearie ill be over in a blink! Goodbye now!"
"Goodbye."
I hung up the phone and slid down to the floor. The crushing feeling came back with the memory of the wreck and all that I lost. Getting past this was certainly harder than I thought. The doorbell rang and I shot up and down the stairs just before Lisa could get to the door. Just as I opened the door Shiloh leaped into my arms. Tears threatened to drop from my eyes but I held them back as I embraced my grandparents beloved dog. She snuggled her nose into my chest and dared not to move. After a few seconds more I pulled away and picked her up. My neighbor looked at me with sorrow and sadness. I gave her a slight nod and she offered a small smile as she turned and walked back toward her house. A gentle hand had grabbed my waist just then and tugged me back inside. Turning I found Jordan's soft gaze and immediately felt a small amount of hope and courage.
After a few moments of silence I set Shiloh down and went back up to my room to finish packing. Just as I reached the top step my phone started to ring. I answered it and was shocked to hear Rhonda at the other end.
"Hi Danny. It's Rhonda. I apologize for not calling sooner but the lawyers and constant phone calls of people trying to claim custody of you has been nonstop. I know its no excuse but I'm very sorry. How are you doing?"
"Hi, Um I'm ok. Just packing at the moment. Don't worry about not calling its understandable. After I got back to the beach house a friend of mine and his mom flew out to stay with me till I came home. We plan on leaving this afternoon. I should get there in about three to four days. What exactly do you mean by people trying to claim custody of me? Who?"
"Well some people that we don't even know and I don't think you do either but the other couple is Joe and Sandy Johnson. Do you know them?"
"Oh my, that's Patrick's parents. Yeah I do but they aren't even related to me why would they claim custody?"
"I don't know but we won over the case and it's all cleared. I hope your ok with living with us. I mean its a huge adjustment but I want you to be happy as much as possible."
"I'm fine with living with you guys. I don't exactly feel comfortable with living with anyone else but I know that I have a good friend that would take me in to but I think it's best I stay with you guys. You feel more like family then anyone else but I know it's gonna take me some time to adjust. Oh and umm I get Shiloh and i also Oakley back with some friends taking care of them. Do you think Harley will be ok with three more dogs invading his space?"
"We have Oakley here with us and Harley is getting along with her great. She plays with Harley all the time but when she is inside she sits at the door like she's waiting for you."
"Well I'm glad to hear about Oakley and Harley. I sure do miss her a lot. She's my rock and my buddy. I'll try to get there as soon as possible. Is she at least eating enough?"
