TIM's POV:
I wake up slowly, and lie still, not wanting to open my eyes. I'm cold and I'm... scared? Why...? I reach over to turn on the light and my hand brushes against something rough. It feels like pavement. My heart starts pounding. Where am I? I force my eyes open but everything is blurred in the darkness. I try to sit up and a searing pain shoots through my side as I grasp both hands to my stomach. Why am I wet? What little light I see slowly fades to black as I drift out of consciousness.
FAITH's POV:
Dinner is made, Audrey and Maggie are watching TV, and Gracie will be home soon with her new boyfriend. Tim and I have yet to meet him. I laugh to myself thinking about what a hard time he always gives any boys that come around. So protective of his little girls. I look up at the clock and am surprised to see its already half past six. Tim should have been home an hour ago.
I walk into the TV room. "Maggie, Audrey, please set the table? Gracie should be here soon. I need to call your father and see what's taking so long." I walk out of the room as the girls go to the kitchen, and I dial Tim's number.
TIM's POV:
I'm startled awake by a vibration in my jacket pocket. I raise my head again and the pain returns, this time with a wave of nausea. I clench my teeth and wait for it to pass. My phone. I have to answer. I fumble through the inside lining and finally find the pocket just as the vibration stops. I pull out the phone and the light on the screen shines through a smear of... Oh my God. That's blood on my hands. That's why my shirt is wet. God please... I need to get home...
