Matt walked out of the florist shop with a huge bouquet of flowers, one part excited and one part confused. The excitement came from how he'd spent his day-deciding that now was the time for retirement and Blue Falls was the place. Not only was he pretty sure he was falling for Gretchen, but he'd found the perfect little ranch he could call his own and had already made an offer.
The confusion stemmed from the fact that the florist hadn't been able to find Gretchen's address to send the flowers, so he'd taken them and would give them to her in person.
"What are these for?" she asked when she stepped out of the café after her extra shift.
"A guy can't buy flowers for a pretty girl?"
She took them with a smile and brought them to her nose for a sniff. "They're beautiful. Thank you."
"I tried to send them to your house so they'd be a surprise when you got home, but the florist couldn't find your address."
She didn't respond other than to lower her eyes and inhale the scent of the flowers again.
"But you're right," he said. "They are for a special occasion." When she looked up at him with the obvious question in her eyes, he smiled. "Today I made my retirement official."
"Oh. What are you going to do?"
"Don't really know, but I'm going to do it here. I made an offer on a small ranch a few miles outside of town."
Gretchen's eyes widened, and he took that as a good sign.
