Wings of Fire: The Fallen Heirs

Chapter Sixteen

Crimson wandered through the tunnels and hallways of the school, heading nowhere in particular. Everyone was asleep, and she had woken up, unable to rest herself. She went down to the library, not even looking at any books, just sitting down an thinking. Something doesn't feel right. Probably nothing, but I feel like something's missing. She tapped her claws lightly, looking around.

After a while, she sat up, walking out of the library. As she walked down through the hallway, she was surprised to find Nocturnal, Sunny, and Frostfire. "What are you guys doing up?", she asked. "I thought I was the only one who couldn't sleep. Something just feels off."

Sunny gave her a worried look. "Sandstone isn't here. He went out exploring, but he hasn't come back yet. Anything guys?", she asked Nocturnal and Frostfire.

They both shook their heads. "Nothing," Nocturnal said. "It's possible he's just out of our range," he suggested.

Sunny looked sceptical. "He wouldn't go that far. He would get way to nervous."

The sound of talons lightly running signaled the arrival of Kite. "My bad feelings were going off, so I couldn't sleep. What's going on?", he asked.

"We're waiting to see if Sandstone comes anytime soon. Want to wait with us?", she offered.

He nodded. "I'm not really doing anyhting, so what else am I going to do?"

For a while, they all sat in silence, listening to the night sounds. Finally, Kite broke the silence. "Don't you all think it's weird that all this stuff is happening all at once? First I show up, then Blister's ghost came to kill us, and then we found that dragonet. It's kind of sad. Her parents were cursed to have a dragonet, but when they did, they didn't want her."

Crimson nodded. "Definitely weird. Say, have you figured out if you're crazy or not?"

Kite scratched the end of his snout. "Yes and no. I've found I have some signs of paranoia, and I may or may not be a little gullible. I'm gonna figure out something soon though. I just can feel it."

Frostfire and Nocturnal both lifted their snouts. "Somethings burning," Frostfire said, standing up. She was just about to leap out into the sky, when a burning tree was thrown into the cave, sending smoke and flames everywhere.

Nocturnal pulled everyone back, and Frostfire breathed frost breath, the flames shrinking. In the next second, two Sandwing statues loomed out of the smoke, hissing and snarling.

"Go and warn the students," Nocturnal said calmly to Sunny and Kite. Both Frostfire and him had their wings flaired out, and were circling the statues slowly. Sunny ran off, and after taking a few steps back, Kite followed.

All of the sudden, another statue came behind the two already there, and two more after that. "Oh, thanks for bringing all your friends, I'm sure they'll make everyone happy!", Frostfire snarled, scowling.

Crimson had no idea what to do, but she definitely wasn't going to stand still. "I'll go and check the feeding area," she said, keeping her eyes on the statues as she ran off.

How many times is this going to happen?!?! Crimson thought. We can't keep doing this every single night!!!
She finally reached the feeding area, cautiously peeking around the corner. She saw no one, and slowly stepped out. She could smell burning, and she also saw a dim light in the distance, and dark smoke rose into the air. There setting the forest on fire!!! All of the sudden, Crimson ducked as low as she could as a burning tree went sailing over her, hitting the ground and sending sparks everywhere. She leaped out of the way as a Sandwing statue lunged for her neck, and three more followed behind it. Uhhh, why are there so many of you now!!!!!!
She ducked again, running in the direction of Nocturnal and Frostfire, and narrowly missed being impaled by a Sandwing like tail. Reaching the other two dragons, she skidded to a halt, all three of them back to back, Sandwing statues glaring at them.

"I take it the cafeteria's infested. Don't worry, it's exactly the same here," Nocturnal said, smiling a little. "Now comes the fun part!!!", he yelled, grabbing a statue. As he had it in mid air, Frostfire breathed frost breath on it, and then shattered it's head like glass with her own forehead. Then, Nocturnal threw it at the four statues that had followed Crimson. With a bang, they were blown to peices by their friends "death".

"Good job," Nocturnal said. "Now we just need to do that a billion more times."

There was another explosion as another burning tree was chucked into the school. They all backed away quickly, keeping an eye on the statues. "Crimson, go and help Sunny and Kite. We've got this." Nocturnal, hissed, his claws making small cracks in the ground, while Frostfire's breath started to freeze the air around her. "I'll get right on that!", She yelled, running down to the sound of dragons stirring.
