0- Prologue

I wish I could say that I listen to music everyday.

I wish I could say that I knew all the gossip that the populars were whispering about near my locker.

I wish I could say I could hear at all.

But I can't.

Ever since a terrible car accident when I was ten, I haven't been able to hear a single thing.

They told me, or rather my parents, that I had hit my head so hard that it shook my cochlea, which resulted in my hearing loss. They tried to fix it through surgery. They tried to give me a hearing aid. They tried to just give me a little bit of the sense back, but as years went by, my sense of hearing left entirely.

Nothing worked.

Surprisingly, after the accident, I had found that I was the only one truly harmed. My dad had a lot of scrapes and bruises. So did Hannah, my mother.

After I was fully assessed, I was forced to learn sign language as fast as possible. My dad whole-heartedly learned with me so that he and I could communicate. My mother, however never learned. She never even tried.

My mother left my dad and I for another man when I was eleven, which crushed my strong father so much that I think he was crying for weeks. I had no idea what was going on.

My mom had fought for some custody of me after the official split between my parents, and she reluctantly got most of the custody over me. My dad panned out money that didn't go towards me in child support and life was a mess.

However, the man she was living with wasn't a good one, and before I even knew what was right and wrong, my dad fought hard to get me away from my mom and her boyfriend.

But now I know why my dad tried so hard to get me back. And I'm glad.

Together, just him and I, we moved to a town in Texas that had an all-deaf school. I excelled in the school, and everything was going smoothly.

That is until my dad got a promotion.

That's when my life came crashing down to the ground for the second time, but this time it was not as bad as the accident.

I was told that we had to leave town and go all the way across the country to New York for his new position.

That meant leaving my friends behind and the easiness in an all-deaf school because I was going to a regular, hearing school.

Someone save me.

Anyone.
