"Hello Sasha." I said in a sickly sweet voice. Honestly, not even I was buying it.
"Hi?" She said in a frightened tone.
"Record this conversation and post it on all your social media later. Posting it will be your form of apologizing to me."
"O-okay." She stuttered pulling out her phone, not so big and tough now is she.
"Alright look for those of you who were at the show tonight, I want to acknowledge that I did not give Sasha here, say hi Sasha, show them you are alive and well."
Sasha meekly turned the camera around and awkwardly waved before turning it back to me.
"See, all good. Anyway, I wanted you all to know, I did not give her backstage passes to encourage her type of behaviour, nor did I give her passes to beat her up like many of you began tweeting and spreading rumors about, thanks for that by the way."
I paused for emphasis before continuing...
"I gave her the passes to teach her a lesson. In a different way. To show that even when people are bringing you down, whether online or in person, you have to keep your cool and hold strong. You have to fight fire with kindness. And not your knife named kindness, actual kindness from the bottom of your heart."
"So Sasha, Sasha's friends that laughed at her hurtful comment," I acknowledged the other teenagers in the room, "I gave you backstage passes to not only film this and be the example of the change I hope to see in the world, but so that you can meet your idols and maybe you'll remember this day as the best day in your life and then you'll connect that memory with its origin being that you bullied someone and, famous or not, we are still people and it still hurts. And while I might be being kind and forgiving, I won't forget. And it may not have been the worst comment, but all bullying hurts the same. So I hope the guilt you feel when you leave today will be enough to remind you to watch what you say to others from now on. I also hope this video will show others that you don't have to sink down to Sasha's level, you can be kind and make them feel more guilty than if you fired back an equally insulting comeback. So with that, have a nice day, I really do wish you the best in life."
With that, I was opening the door to leave and let the boys in when I noticed Sasha crying, and even though her comment hurt and I was still angry, the good in me took over. Meanwhile her friends were shocked in place with their jaws on the floor, not moving to help their friend. Ugh fine, if no one else will....
I turned around and walked back to Sasha and without saying a word, I hugged her. Sometimes even the nasty people need some comforting, you never know what's going on in their lives.
At first, she didn't know who was hugging her, but when I pulled away, her jaw dropped and her tears increased in intensity.
"I'm so sorry, I don't know what came over me. I really am so sorry and I can't believe how cool you were, I honestly didn't know what to expect when I came back here." Sasha said in a rushed, frantic breath.
"Give me your Twitter name." I said instead of saying for her not to worry about it, because she should.
"What?" Sasha said with a genuinely confused look on her face.
"Give me your Twitter name."
"Uhm y-yeah o-o-okay." She said, struggling to say her words from having cried.
She wrote it down on a piece of paper for me and that's when I explained it to her, "If you're really as sorry as you say you are, then post that video on your Twitter tonight. And if you don't post that, I know your apology wasn't sincere. But just remember this, I have your Twitter, which means the boys could easily have your Twitter if you just simply show how sorry you are. Actions speak louder than words." I said turning around to leave once again, but one last time I decided to lighten up the tense tone, "Oh and don't cry, you don't want to mess up your make-up for when you take pictures with the boys." I said with a small smile before finally leaving for real.
When I stepped outside the boys stumbled backwards and tried to play it cool and act like they weren't listening. Yeah okay, sure.
"Real smooth guys, you should be spies."
"Is she okay?? Is she still alive and breathing?" Nate, Asher, and Shane asked at the same time.
"She's fine." I noticed Miles' silent, brewing anger. "What's wrong with him?" I said pointing to the abnormally quiet one.
"He's mad that he has to go meet that girl and pretend that he likes her and everything is okay." Nate responded.
"If I can do it, you can do it." I said to Miles. "She really is sorry though."
"What'd you say to her??" Nate asked.
"You'll see. But first, go meet your fans, they are waiting for you." I said with a smirk.
They all gave me weird looks, but listened to me by begrudgingly going to meet, the now screaming, fan girls.
*.*
I heard a faint knock on my door, and knowing who it was, I just yelled, "It's open!"
"Hey, uhm, are you sure you're okay?" Miles asked in a timid, unsure voice.
"Yeah, and actually, I owe you a thank you, it was your words that stopped me from doing something I'd regret." I told him with a sincere smile.
"What do you mean?" Miles asked me.
"Check Twitter." I said with a small smile.
Sasha followed through with her apology, and much to her dismay and humiliation, she released the video. I sent a thank you tweet telling her how much I appreciate her sincere apology. She will understand what that means.
"But do it on your own, I don't really want to hear it myself." I said cringing. In truth, I've listened to the video a thousand times, I'm so proud of myself for keeping my cool together, I just don't want to see his reaction.
"Okay?" He said with a skeptical look on his face as he warily left the room.
A few minutes later he came into the room with a huge grin on his face.
He came right up to me without a word and put his arms around me and whispered into my ear, "I'm so proud of you Kar!" I could hear the smile in his voice and hugged him back.
"Thanks Miles, that means a lot."
He pulled away and the huge grin on his face grew even bigger, if that was even possible. "The best part is the comments about you now, you have gone from semi-popular and kind of hated, to dominating Twitter and having your very own fan base."
I couldn't believe his words so I pulled out my phone and couldn't believe the number of mentions I had!
The tweets were something like this:
Carliii2475:
Tbh I had no idea who this Kara chick was before today, but dang girl, you slayed her! Good for you! You totally rock
JeremyBlackBeans:
Kara gurl, I seriously dig you, way to kill 'em *whispers* with kindness
WallyWorld:
This Kara girl totally knows how to slayyy!1! You totally won me over, your speech was so inspiring! #NewFreakingRoleModel
And you get the idea. I was so happy, I could feel the tears on my cheeks.
Miles noticed and panicked, "Oh my God! Kara are you okay?? Did you see a hate tweet! I'm sorry, I swear I thought they were all good!"
"Miles, it's okay," I say cutting him off, "I'm crying because I'm happy! I've finally made it, I have a fan base! This is incredible!!" I say throwing my arms around him, he instantly hugged me back, something about it just felt so right.
Wait
Did I really just think that??
Kara Ford, you're going soft.
I can't be thinking of these things, I need to think about how I am going to get Asher back. No one messes with Kara Ford and gets away with it.
