"This is Will Robinson of the 24th colonist group. I'm making a record of this because...we've discovered the most important archeological site in history. And we've only got 19 hours before we leave."

Y/N pursed her lips at the reminder of the short timeframe and she shifted onto her knees, continuing to collect samples from any part of the ruins that she could possibly get her hands on. Although Will was the geology expert between the two of them, she had quite a few curiosities of her own. Ideas she'd explore as soon as they got back to camp. Or when they got to Alpha Centauri.

The knife she was using to carve out the samples from the ruins suddenly slipped and she hissed, blaming her false hope as she gripped her hurt finger with her hand. It's more like if they got to Alpha Centauri.

"Y/N, you alright back there," Will called, shifting his attention away from his log entry at the sound of her knife clanking on the solid rock.

The girl felt her neck heat up at the attention and she cleared her throat, gripping the knife again as she waved him off with her unhurt hand. "Yeah, yeah. You just do your video thing."

Will sent her a skeptic look, his gaze lingering over her for a second more before he averted his eyes, a hint of red visible on the apples of his cheeks.

Although the heart to heart moment they shared last night was wholesome and somewhat intimate, the pair didn't quite expect the hazy awkwardness that would follow the next morning, which mostly consisted of avoiding touch, trying to stay occupied, and the usual one sided conversations with the robot. Y/N, who only had knowledge of these sorts of situations from Penny, hoped it would pass quickly. She had enough things to worry about, of course. A strained relationship with her best friend didn't need to be another problem.

"Um—this chamber appears to be heavily damaged," Y/N spoke up, attempting to clear the tense air. Will slowly shifted his camera to her, zooming in on the evidence she showed of huge rocks placed in unnatural positions around the cave.

"From some kind of cataclysmic event maybe?" Will suggested, looking up from the camera to the girl who was tracing the intricate cracks with her fingers.

She retracted her hands, a thick layer of a black sandy substance covering them. Will curiously bent down next to her, mindlessly  taking his hand and running it over the material on hers to inspect it.

"This is pyroclastic ash," he muttered, the ash traveling from her hand to his as he retracted his hand. "That means this room too the brunt of a volcanic event."

"I already got a sample," Y/N spoke, waving it in front of his face with a small smile.

He grinned, taking it out of her hands teasingly before swinging off his backpack, placing the flashlight on the floor. "I'll carry these for you."

"Think I can't handle a few vials of sedimentary soot?" she quipped, watching as the flashlight rolled over to the side. She grabbed it before it went out of reach, lifting her head up to watch Will before the light focused on the silhouette of a terrifying specimen, although it was obviously dead and well past its decomposition period, the skeleton sprawled out across the rocks. She gasped out loud, her shock getting the attention of Will who also jumped up in alarm.

Once they both saw the skeleton, they calmed down, but Y/N still felt her heart racing as she placed a hand on her chest. Will, let out a breath, tapping her knee lightly for the flashlight before standing up,  jutting his camera forward.
