The Human Eye

Chapter 4

Well its morning now, and the sun is sitting happy, high it the sky. Everyone is in their sections of the Dragon edge camp. Meanwhile you stand in the dungeon, in the cages below the stables. Its here they keep the wind dragon. You were staring at it, and it at you. Gazing into its baby blue eyes glowing past the shadows of the cage.You were underground so it was extremely dark down here. Torches lined the cave walls. Its eyes were strange. They weren't slit like the dragon's here, they were... normal. It's was then that you realized the truth and all the memories came flooding back.

** "Mommy your back!" Little you shouted. You were at home in your village. It was a hot sunny day. Other tribe members tended to the fields, and you remember seeing men in the distance come back from a hunt, with long instruments you assume to be spears. But their appearance was fuzzy.

You remember seeing your mother after a long trip, for whatever reason. She wore a long plain dress and had a long brown scarf around her neck, but you can't remember what her dragon looked like. She hugged you and made you feel like the best daughter in the world. "Hello my little beastie, I've brought you a present." You remember her pull something large out of her bag, a golden dragon egg.

The memory gets fuzzy then skips to a mysterious long, serpentine white dragon with red hair, and green eyes setting down on your village. The dragon's eyes were that of a human, not a typical dragon. You remember your father telling you as others ran, that the dragons in your country were more evolved and more superior to average dragon, that you could tell by their eyes. That they were windows to the soul, and that this meant they had one too.

"They have human eyes, like you..my little monster. Meaning they too have souls, high leveled emotions and minds even more intelligent then ours...look see how they glow, thats the power flowing through them like blood." **

The memory fades and you come to, the dragon still gazing at you with his own glowing baby blue human like eyes. The slits were gone, and you knew what it meant. Jumping around with happiness and excitement by your sudden realization, you ran outside and went to seek out Hiccup. 'This info will make him forgive me I'm sure of it. I'll wipe that smug grin off Astrid's face, and get more romance points.' You were so excited you could practically feel his lips touch yours. You blush hard as you run into Hiccup's room.

Startled, he turns his head quickly, then relaxed after he realized it was only you. He was tinkering with the flag at the end of Toothless's tail. You make eye contact, but he doesn't say a word. 'Relax, you can fix this.' You tell yourself.

"Hiccup...are you mad at me?" You say, standing next to him.

He takes a deep breath and turns his head to look at you. "No [your name]..i'm not." He pouts, setting down the flag and taking a seat, running his hand thought his hair, and messing with it, not making eye contact. "I guess I overreacted a little. I never would of imagined people used dragons that way, but I can't be insensitive to other ways of life, so...I'm sorry." He apologizes but still doesn't look at you. 'Well then how about this...'

"Well i'm glad, but I came because I have some knew information to share with you..." You look at him with a smile but he doesn't respond and continues to pout. "...On the dragon."

With this he finally looks at you with his beautiful eyes and that was enough to make your heart skip a beet. 'Gotcha..' "You do? What is it?" He stands up and smiles.

"I know where the dragon, came from, and I have some cool background info
" You smirk as he walks up to you and gives you a hug. You blush hard by being able to smell him, hugging his neck.

"[Your name] thats amazing, i'll go get the gang, so meet me in front of it's cage." He says running off.

You do as he says and stand in front of the dragon's cage. Right now it was sleeping so you took this chance to bond with it. Gently petting the top of its head. The white strip on its head turned out to be a strip of metal upon closer inspection. 'No wonder it was able to break through all those trees and boulders.' It ignores your touch.

You get interrupted, and stand. The team comes down the cobblestone stairs and into the dungeon. Astride has a mean look on her face and comes up to you, standing in front of the cage. The twins follow close behind her. While Snotlout, Fishlegs and Hiccup come down the stairs slowly.

"I don't know what your planning, and I don't care. As long as you stay AWAY from Hiccup, got me? I don't know what he sees in you, but i'll make sure its of the BEAST you really are!" She silently whispers, getting in your face. 'Little monster..' You think of the cute nickname your parents used to call you. The twins do nothing but instigate, and before you could even think of a response Hiccup came along. Astride backed up and leaned on the wall next to the cage. Clenching your fists, you continue on with the news.

They gather around the cage and you stood in front. "Ok, guys I have new information that i'm sure you'll love." You start smiling, ignoring Astride. "If you look closely, this dragon has human shaped eyes that glow in the dark.." You say, kicking the cage, waking up the dragon. All it does is growl at how annoying you were being. But it was surprisingly calm in your presence, despite all the people around its cage.

They lean in closer and gasp. Fishlegs took a closer look and smiled. "Wow your right, it does, and the glow is amazing."

"Its great and all..but do you know what it means?" Snotlout asks crossing his arms.

"Of coarse I do. It means that this dragon is Umbrian!" You smile wide but everyone looks confused.

"Umb- what?" Ruffnut asks." "No, Umbrion." Tufffnut says

Hiccup rolls his eyes. "No she said Umbrian...what does that mean exactly?" Fishlegs raises his hand and jumps up and down. You giggle and point to him, allowing him to speak.

"Umnrian, I assume, is the term for someone from the place your from? So.. Umbra?

"Correct." You smile.

"Wait, then what does that say about this dragon? And how is it different then the others?" Hiccup asks, talking a step closer to inspect the beast.

"Well, SHE is very different. I remember my father telling me that our eyes are like windows to the soul, and represent our emotions, and intelligence. With this dragon having the same eyes that we do, must mean that its just as complex, and even smarter then we, or the dragons here are. Thats why you guys had such an unusually hard time beating it, and why you failed at training it." You referred to the moment after you left the fight, when Hiccup had the dragon put down here after failing to train it the usual way. "Its glow represents the magic, and strength it possess. Which is why it displayed immense wind strength during the fight. I took the liberty of writing down my inspection." You hand Fishlegs the paper.

"Whatever, this is great and all but why should we care? What can you of for us?" Astride says impatiently.

You roll your eyes and Hiccup takes a mental note of the tension between you two. "It means this dragon must have migrated here from my country, I don't remember what its called yet. It also means that I know how to train it properly, along with other dragons we come across as we go farther way."

"Wow, new dragons! Im so excited!" Tuffnut shouts. The twins head but, and the dragon roars at them in frustration from not being able to sleep. It was exhausted and cranky from the fight.

"How will you train them?" Hiccup says. He's so used to being the one training new dragons so he was a little irritated.

"Remember the dragon staff I told you about?" You walk up to him and put both your hands behind your back while swaying back and forth to be cute, He giggles. This pisses Astride off even more and she storms off.

"Yah? What about it?" He responds with smile

"Can you craft it for me?" You ask being cute. He nods, Then you turn to the dragon, as it sleeps. "This dragon will be mine!"

~ Wow I expected this story to get a few reads fast cuz its a fanfiction, but I never would have imagined that it'd get this popular. Thank you guys so much, and know that this story is a lot of fun to write. Im also doing concept art in preparation for the chapters that need them, so ecspect more of those. Enjoy XOXO ~
