I rushed into home room, almost a minute late. I quickly scanned the rows of seats to find a place to sit, almost all eyes on me. I get very uncomfortable when people I don't exactly know stare at me, so finally I found an empty seat and plopped down. After what seemed like forever home room was over. I scrambled up and picked up all my belongings and then rushed out the door. I walked down the hallway having no idea where I was going. I pulled out my schedule from my pocket and looked down. "Ugh" I groaned. I had math next, which was my weakest subject. Oh, well I thought to myself as I shrugged my shoulders. Look on the bright side, at least it's with Shawn. I shook my head. You just met the guy, you can't have feelings for him already! I tried to get that thought out of my head. I sighed. I didn't exactly have any friends that went to this school, so I guess Shawn was my only hope. The bell abruptly shook me out of my thoughts. Oh, no! I have to get to class! I ran into class out of breath, not a minute late. I spotted Shawn and sat in a desk next to him. "Hey, Sarah" he said, smiling at me. "Hey, how wa-" I was rudely interrupted by my teacher. Oh, crap. "Ms. Russet, is there a problem?" My teacher, Mr. Spiller, inquired while sharing looks at Shawn and I. "Um...um no" I stuttered, making myself look like a complete idiot. Great. "Save the chit chat for after class, that goes for both of you." He said, giving us a stern look. I was probably as red as a tomato, that's how embarrassed I was. "Yes, sir" we both said at the same time. I glanced at Shawn. Wow, he's as embarrassed as I am. Well that's a first. Most of my old friends were outgoing and could actually handle situations like this, unlike me. I was just glad that finally somebody I know is like me. But on the side note, this Mr. Spiller guy made going to math class even worse. Great. I was getting really bored so I started doodling in my notebook. I really loved drawing, it was a way for me to just get away. After a couple of minutes I felt Shawn's gaze on my doodles. "Wow, that's really good" he said, intrigued. "Haha, thank you" I said nervously. I wasn't used to getting compliments from people for my drawings, I kind of kept them to myself. After that dreary class was finally over, I pulled Shawn aside. "Well that was a total flop." I said with a nervous laugh. "I agree, but I'm used to it." He said, shrugging. "Used to what?" I asked, tilting my head. "Oh-um uh" he stuttered. "Being embarrassed?" I inquired, a concerned look on my face. "Um...yes" he said with a look in his eyes that I knew by heart..."Hey, it's ok" I said while rubbing his shoulder with an understanding look. "I totally get it, Shawn. I'm actually used to it, too..." "Really?" He said, with a gleam of hope in his eyes. "Yes, Shawn" I said with a smile of hope. "Thank you for understanding." He said, pulling me into a hug. I was so startled, a guy had never hugged me before...just go with it. I relaxed a little bit and hugged back. He smelled like...muffins? I'll have to figure that out later. He was the first to let go, and after that it was kinda awkward. I glanced at my watch. "Oh, we need to get to class!" I said awkwardly. "Um ya, I agree." He said. Next period was art, my favorite. I unconsciously grabbed his hand and bolted to next period. He was so startled, I couldn't help but laugh. "What are you laughing at?" He said jokingly. "You, you goof!" I said while laughing. I slowed to a walk and let go of his hand."Hey, why'd you let go?" He said, a pout on his face. "You're such a dork" I chirped."a cute one." Uh-oh. That last part wasn't supposed to come out, yikes. I stopped dead in my tracks and covered my mouth with my hand. "Um that was- I mean I-" I stuttered. He started laughing. "It's okay, I'm attractive I know." He said jokingly. I started laughing. "Thank God, I thought you were going to leave me or something." I cringed. "Hey, don't worry. I'm not like that, I promise. I won't leave you, okay?" He said, putting an arm around my waist. His arm felt warm against my skin. It actually felt reassuring. "I believe you." I said, smiling at him. "Great." He said, smiling back and pulling me closer to him. As we walked, I couldn't help but think. This day may have started bad, but I can tell this'll end up greater than I expected.
