 Chapter 4

- Different is beautiful.

One more day and I will be crowned king of Endia. In most kingdoms, the eldest son would become king when his father dies, but in our kingdom, we run things differently. Once the eldest, which is me, gets married, then he shall become king at the appropriate age of eighteen. Tomorrow, I will meet all of those requirements to become king.

My home is always claustrophobic to me. The walls seem to be closing in every time I take a step. When I would tell Ella about these feelings, she would tell me that maybe I was sick and maybe I am. Stress can make the body weak and timid. These feelings need to wash away by tomorrow; I cannot be a weak king. As I look outside of my glass window, I can see the many designs that the servants are making. Outside looks absolutely beautiful. The servants must be nervous, having the thought that they cannot mess anything up. My father would definitely have them beheaded. The wedding must look perfect and go smoothly. My door suddenly opens wide and a servant bows.

"Sorry to disturb you prince Kai, but your father would like to have a discussion with you in the throne room."

My eyes drift from the outside scenery and focus on the servant. I walk towards him and pat him on the back as a thanks. I walk out of my room and towards the throne room. I have only been in that room two times in my entire lifetime. The first was when I was born, my mother told me that as soon as I was cleaned up and asleep, she took me there and sat in her chair. The second time was when I was a little curious boy. My father disciplined me that day and forbid me from ever going back in there. To this day, my mind is still curious about why I cannot be in that room.

I stand before the tall brown doors. I almost feel intimidated by it. These doors are locked every time I pass by it. Now I will open them, I will step inside without trespassing. Everything is quiet, so quiet that I can hear my own nervous heart beating. It feels like it will pour out of my chest.

Without any more hesitation, my hands touch the door and I begin to push. It opens slowly and light pours out of the room. I look up and see my father sitting on the throne. He truly does look like a king. His hands are under his chin and the light from outside is hitting him perfectly.

The room is huge and with each step I take towards my father, I can hear my step's echo. Pearl colored columns stand tall as they hold up the ceiling. Many designs are engraved in them and it creates such a luxurious atmosphere. In the middle of the throne room is this huge red carpet with European patterns.

When I look up, I notice the many patterns on the wall and the huge stained glass window that shows me the holy designs. Everything about this room is heavenly and warm. Now I see why my mother spends so much time in here.

"Son, come up here," my father commands.

I walk towards my father and as I get closer, he seems older. I have never really paid attention to my father's face this much, but now that I am, he looks like an old stressed king. He stands up and touches my shoulder.

"Soon you will sit on that chair and wear my crown. Tomorrow I will be a retired king. Make me proud Kai."

"Yes father. If I may, can I ask why I could never come in here."

"Only a true king belongs in this room Kai. This room is precious to me. Tomorrow when you are king, I want you to show me that you deserve this room. Do well."

He pats my shoulder and sits back on the throne. Hopefully I can make him proud of me. I cannot see why he is not proud of me already. Throughout my childhood, I have listened to him deeply. Never have I ever went against his orders, no matter how much I did not want to go through with them. I have learned that nothing will make my father more proud than becoming a strong and commanding king.
