Chapter 5

- "The color red was never my favorite."

A moan leaves my lips due to the sun's visit to my left cheek. I begin to blink excessively, until I completely open them. My head lifts from my white pillow and I gaze at the sky. Terror begins to slither in my mind. My throat feels dry and sweat drips down the side of my face. Today is going to be a long one. It is officially my birth day and the day I get married. I am eighteen, and yet I feel the same.

Ella opens my room door and runs up to the side of my bed. She does not hesitate to hug me tightly. I am surprised, and a bit uncomfortable. My body feels warm as her body touches my naked chest.

"It is your birth day. You are officially a man. I will make you the greatest breakfast that you will ever have. Clean up and come downstairs." She is very cheery and bright today. I will never understand her instant mood swings.

She rushes out of my room and I begin to ruffle my hair. I wish my parents would come in my room to wish me a happy day, but they do not care. All they care about is getting money from Reum. It is hard to believe that today is my last day sleeping alone. I will have to get used to a young woman sleeping next to me. The idea sends chills down my body a bit.

I get out of my bed and stare at myself in my mirror. Everything about me is the same, I wish for it to remain this way. I do not want to become like my father, I only want to do good in this world. If marrying Amelia and becoming king means making a difference, then I shall go through with it.

As I step downstairs, I notice how swiftly the servants are moving. If they mess anything up, my father will kill them. The house smells like fresh roses and the tiles are so shiny that I can almost see my reflection. Everything seems to be in order for today. When I am king, I wish to train hard and well. I would like for my father to teach me how to move swiftly in battle, he is always good in combat.

I step into the dining room and to my surprise I see a ghost; an exiled ghost who should be thousands of feet below. He should be burning in the flames of hell and reaping what he has sown. My face stays emotionless as I walk towards this cruel man. I always call myself the first son because I deserve that title. In reality, the man that stands before me is the first born, the eldest. He should be marrying Amelia, but it brings joy to my heart that he is not marrying her. He does not deserve such a beauty.

As I stare into his cunning eyes, I feel anger as it moves through my veins. Today is supposed to be about me and by him being here, it makes it all about him. The servants around us grow quiet and one by one, they leave us.

"Hello brother," is his cold greeting. His voice is low, yet intimidating. His smirk is similar to a heartless conqueror waiting to take the world.

"What are you doing here?" I ask calmly. I am trying my best to keep my calm, if I break now, my father will see how pathetic I am.

"I am here for your wedding of course," he chuckles.

"If father sees you, he will throw you out without a second thought!" I shout.

"He already saw me, this morning actually. He said it would be wrong of him to throw me out on your wedding day."

"You left this family to help the Sham Kingdom!"

"They have power, brother. Not only do they have power, but a woman who I love. That kingdom is heaven on earth."

"And what will you do when they are ready to attack my kingdom?!" I shout in rage.
