“No posters of Megan Fox or porn stars? I’m impressed,” a voice said from the door.

I sprung up from my bed, surprised. I knew that Amy was babysitting Timmy, but I didn’t think she’d come in here. And I was SHIRTLESS to top it off. Ugh, and I hadn’t worked out in weeks.

“Where’s Timmy?” I asked, my voice wary.

Amy laughed. “Asleep. Chill, you don’t gotta look at me like that. It’s not like I’m a werewolf.”

I chuckled with her and stood up. “About earlier . . .”

Amy blushed and stared at her toes. “I . . . gotta go. I’ll be downstairs doing my homework.”

The girl rushed out of there before I realized it. Fortunately, I caught her before she got to the stairs. I wrapped my hand around her arm. I felt her shudder at the contact.

            “Wait. Lemme finish.”

She sighed reluctantly and yanked her arm from my grip. I planned to lunge at her, but she was walking towards my room.

Amy sat down on my bed and crossed her legs. I plopped myself onto the rolling chair.

            “Yes, Drew?” she asked, reddening.

Her shyness and suddenly girly tone surprised me. First of all, she used my name. Second, I had expected her to fight me and retort wittily. Her sudden change in attitudes had me change my words.

Instead of teasing her about kissing me back, I said, “I’m sorry.”

The words shocked both of us.

            “What?” she asked.

I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair tiredly. I repeated, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kissed you yesterday. Or any of the other times.”

She blinked in shock. I let my head drop, but not before I notice her drop hers as well.

“Maybe . . . I wanted you to kiss me.”

My head popped up and I glanced at her uneasily. Was she messing with me? Amy glanced up and met my eyes. She smiled softly and stood up, sitting on my lap.

My breath quickened and I wrapped my arms around her waist. I felt her tenseness slacken. She rested her head at the crook of my neck.

            “Really?” I whispered hoarsely.

I started to hyperventilate as Amy breathed into my ear.

            “Nope!” she chirped.

She stood up and pranced back to my bed. It hurt, the way she toyed with my feelings like that. But I didn’t let it show. Instead, I plastered a boyish grin on my face and said:

“Ouch. Oh what can I do to get you to want to kiss me?” I said mockingly, but I really wanted to know.

“Ask me out on a date like a normal person. Don’t try to kiss me like a perv.”

I had to laugh at that. Amy could be hilarious, even if it was at the expense of my feelings.

I cleared my throat. “Well . . . Amy, would you go out to dinner with me?”

She let out a shocked gasp, a real one. Then the negative thoughts started to kick in.

            . . . HOLY SHIT, WHAT HAVE I DONE???

            “I . . . I,” she stuttered.
