"We're done playing safe," Veronica said, her voice sharper than it had been before.

Bella crossed her arms, watching her carefully. "You sure that's smart?"

"Do I look like I care?"

Clark exhaled, flipping a switch on his stereo like the sound of static would make this easier. "Alright. You want to burn through every lead? Let's start with the names we haven't chased yet."

Alex nodded, tension tight in his jaw. "Smith's records showed at least three other people tied to his investigation before he died. We track them down. We find out who's lying."

Veronica swallowed, pulse hammering.

Her mother had hidden things. William had been forced to leave her without knowing why. And now, she was supposed to sit still and process it?

No.

She was going to make them face the truth.

"Let's move," she said. "No more waiting."

Veronica sat beside Alex in the dim office, the glow of the laptop screen reflecting off stacks of dusty records.

"Everything leaves a footprint," Alex murmured, fingers tapping across the keyboard.

Veronica leaned closer, pulse pounding.

Dates. Transactions. Hidden transfers.

And then—they found it.

A series of payments, spread across years.

Money moved between anonymous accounts, tied to projects that didn't exist publicly.

And at the center?

R.T.

"They funded something," Alex muttered. "Whatever this was—it wasn't just about Hilary. It was bigger."

Veronica swallowed hard, tracing the largest transaction on the screen.

And then—her breath stalled.

The money trail led straight to a company.

One owned by William's father.

Her hands curled into fists.

"This wasn't business," she whispered. "It was control."

And now?

She was going to tear it apart.
