You all say, "Cheers!", and drink up. At least, the girls do- the shots are gone quickly and they order another round. The cool, refreshing wine produces a welcome, familiar and comforting feeling of warm sparkle in your stomach and you feel yourself begin to relax and let go of your stressed thoughts about men. You, shelly and Traci start to talk about the horrible teacher you all have for chemistry who constantly wears form fitting short shorts- a fact which you find truly disturbing when you're trying to focus on the material. Distracting, in a bad way. But it brings you laughter at least, the ridiculousness of it all.
Finally your drink, too, is polished off and you don't see the busy bartender in sight. But you're very ready for more. "You guys, will you hold our table if I go up there?" you ask your friends. "Sure!" they both say. After all, they're completely entertained with what's now their third round of tequila shots and they're screaming enthusiastically about different absurd stories of Mr. Fleet, the short-shorts-touting hapless professor.
You excuse yourself and start heading towards the bar. It is noisy, and you are nearly crushed, but you manage to squeeze in and see the bartender, making eye contact from across the room. In your focused state you almost didn't notice the somewhat out of place, handsome, quiet, nerdy looking man sitting to your right. What could he have to do with this bachelorette party? You wonder. No, wait... the drink has already gotten to you on an empty stomach and you actually realize you wondered this out loud.
